Mangalore, August 16: Mangalore Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza laid foundation stones for 28 houses to be constructed for the landless poor at Mariashram Church in Talapady here on Wednesday August 15.
Each house will be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,60,000 on a plot of 4.15 cents of land donated by the diocese.
On the occasion of its post-centenary silver jubilee, the diocese of Mangalore had planned to construct 161 houses for the poor.
According to a press release, the 100th house was inaugurated by the Bishop at Ranipura recently.
Naveen Cardoza of Marian Projects Private Limited has come forward to construct the 28 houses at zero profit.
Jacintha D'Souza and Anitha D'Souza, beneficiaries of the project were also present on the occasion.
Fr Nelson Olivera, Parish Priest of Mariashram church, Fr William Menezes, Diocesan PRO, Fr Onil D'Souza, Director CODP, Naveen Cardoza of Mavian projects, Elias Fernandes among others were present.
