Helpline service for the benefit of homeless launched

Mangalore, August 16: A helpline service for the homeless was launched at the Centre for Homeless near Saharavu Temple in Mangalore on Thursday under the auspices of Mangalore City Corporation.

Mayor Gulzar Banu inaugurated the service.

Dr. Harish Kumar, Commissioner, MCC, said that the helpline service is meant for people who come to Mangalore in search of livelihood but spend their days without any roof to protect them, besides catering to the needs of beggars and homeless.

The helpline number is 18004258515.

Dr. Kumar also said that the developments have come about as per the Supreme Court directive.

Besides Hampankatta, a centre for the homeless also exists at Urwa. Another such centre is slated to come up at Kasba Bengre, the Commissioner said.

Builders in Karnataka eyeing to bring back migrant workers

Bengaluru, Jun 8: Facing a shortage of labour, some top builders in the city have initiated efforts to bring back the migrant workers, who have returned to their native places following the COVID-19 lockdown, and are holding parleys with Railway authorities for operation of special trains to ferry them.

After the lockdown was announced, many construction projects came to a halt and accordingly the labourers were rendered jobless. These migrant workers preferred to go back to their home state as they were not paid when the projects were stopped and were caught in the big financial mess. Many of these migrants even chose to cover thousands of kilometres by foot when even trains, buses or any motor vehicles were not operating.

Keeping their woes in view, the Centre decided to run the Shramik Special trains to ferry them to their native places. But, after they were gone, the builders found themselves in a lurch. An executive of a builder told PTI "Yes, our builder and a few others are in talks with the Railways to run the special train to bring back the labourers." She said nothing has been materialised as of now.

According to her, the builders took the contact numbers of the workers when they left the city to their home states and are now contacting them one by one. The South Western Railway has so far sent 3.11 lakh migrant workers in 216 Shramik Special trains starting from May 3 to June 6.

K Sudhakar allocated all matters related to COVID-19 in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Karnataka Minister Dr K Sudhakar has been allocated all matters related to COVID-19 by the Governor on the advice of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
Health Minister B Sriramulu, who earlier handled matters related to COVID-19, has been allotted the Backward Class Welfare Development portfolio.
Karnataka on Monday announced a complete lockdown in the state till April 1.
"In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the entire state will be locked down from 12 o'clock night of March 23 to April 1. People are requested to strictly follow it to contain the coronavirus spread," Yediyurappa had said.

Karnataka govt to build guest house for Kannadiga pilgrims in Ayodhya

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Anticipating a huge number of pilgrims from Karnataka to start visiting Ayodhya following the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday requested his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath for two acres of land to build a 'yatri nivas' (guest house).

"A large number of pilgrims from Karnataka would be visiting Ayodhya. The government of Karnataka wishes to construct a yatri nivas for the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya," Yediyurappa wrote to Yogi.

"I request you to grant two acres of land in Ayodhya for this purpose," he said.

The Chief Minister said the yatri nivas will be constructed for the benefit of pilgrims from the southern state.

He also congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for successfully laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple on Wednesday.

Not bothered about the development of the country as currently we have no idea how to tackle the corona viurs. Ministers are keen on builing Guest house for pilgrims, Statue of RAM etc etc.

Please concentrate on how to minimise the Virus issue in KARNAKATA like other Gulf countries.
