PRASANNAMangalore, August 18: Shamina Shafiq, Member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) has left Mangalore conducting a one-sided enquiry into the homestay attack, alleged Prasanna Ravi, Convenor, Jagratha Hindu Mahila Vedike.

Addressing mediapersons at a press meet in Mangalore on Saturday at Press Club, Ms. Ravi said that she along with a team of women had visited Circuit House on August 16 to submit an appeal to Ms. Shafiq, asking her to look into issues of atrocities on women in Mangalore. “We wanted to drag her attention towards issues such as 'Love Jihad', sex mafia, drugs mafia and missing of women cases in Mangalore. But she gave a rude reply asking us to discuss it with the state government”, Ms. Ravi alleged.

Accusing Ms. Shafiq of carrying out a one-sided probe into the homestay attacks, Ms. Ravi said that the NCW member declined to meet local women at Padil to look into the other side of the story. “When I along with other local women asked her to listen to our explanation on the drugs mafia and sex mafia net behind the homestay story, she enquired about our house door numbers. She has proved that she has come to Mangalore as an agent of the central government”, Ms. Ravi said.

Responding to a query, Ms. Ravi said that she condemns acts of molestation and manhandling of women carried out at the homestay. She however maintained that had it not been for the 'intervention' of the Hindutva activists, the girls could well have been exploited by the partying boys. “We are for the girls but there is a drug mafia working behind this. Alcohol was found there. What if the boys had got drunk and misbehaved with the girls and exploited them?” she asked.

Ms. Ravi on the occasion said that the girl victims must come out and speak about the party. “Why is none of them coming forward? Besides, why is that only two male victims are appearing in front of the media. Why are the rest of them not coming out?” she questioned.

However, she admitted that she has no evidence to prove that drugs were being consumed at the party. When asked if she or her organization had met and spoke to the girl victims personally, she responded in the negative.

Mumbai, Feb 26: Maharashtra cabinet minister and Congress leader Aslam Shaikh on Wednesday said that former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis made an irresponsible statement regarding the Shiv Sena-led state government's 'silence' on AIMIM leader Waris Pathan's remark. He added that as the incident took place in Karnataka, Fadnavis should ask Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa about the matter.

"This is an irresponsible statement given by Devendra Fadnavis. He should ask the same question to the Chief Minister of Karnataka where the statement was given," Shaikh said.

"Fadnavis should ask the same question to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah that why has he not been able to control the violence going on in Delhi," he added.

Earlier, on Tuesday, targeting Shiv Sena's silence over the recent controversial remark by Waris Pathan, Fadnavis said the Uddhav Thackeray-led party might be "wearing bangles" but the BJP was not and knew how to retaliate in the same manner.

"Shiv Sena might be wearing bangles but we are not. If someone says something then he will be given an answer in the same way. BJP has this much power," said Fadnavis while launching a scathing attack on ruling-Shiv Sena in Maharashtra for not taking strict action against Pathan.

On February 20, while addressing an anti-CAA rally, at Kalaburagi in Karnataka, Pathan had said, "Time has now come for us to unite and achieve freedom. Remember we are 15 crores but can dominate over 100 crores."

Bengaluru, Jun 9: A 42-year-old founding director of an engineering consultancy firm lost Rs 65,000 to online fraudsters who posed as representatives of a mobile service provider and lured him with the offer of a fancy number recently.

Asif (name changed) received a text message on May 19, informing him that a platinum number, 9099999999, was available and interested people could dial a mobile number to avail it.

“Asif, who runs a mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) engineering consultancy near Shivajinagar, decided to get the fancy mobile number. He called the number and the receiver said they would generate an invoice for his request. After a fake invoice for Rs 64,900 was generated, Asif paid the money through online transaction that day. Asif waited for two weeks for the SIM card with the fancy number to reach him,” an officer said.

East CEN Crime police registered a case of cheating under section 420 of IPC and sections under the Information Technology Act after Asif lodged a complaint on June 6.

Chikkamgaluru, Feb 21: Wazi Noronha, aka, Vojald, the father of Amulya Leona Noronha, who lives in Koppa taluk of Chickmagalur district has said that he was shocked by his daughter’s pro-Pakistan slogans.

“Let her rot in jail. I don’t mind if police break her bones, I don’t support what she said and I will not approach lawyers for her bail. She has committed a grave mistake,” he said.

Amulya, a 19-year-old student activist, was booked for sedition yesterday after she raised ‘Long Live Pakistan’ slogans at a CAA-NRC rally. A visibly embarrassed Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM chief and MP tried to snatch the mic away from her and slammed her. Karnataka Police have registered a case under IPC Section 124A (Offence of sedition) against Amulya.

Mr. Wazi, who owns a two-acre areca plantation and runs a poultry farm, said he would not make any attempts to get her bail. “Let the law take its course. I cannot approve of her statement,” he said.

He said he had cautioned his daughter against getting involved in protests. “I told her to complete studies first and later she could fight for poor people. But what she said yesterday is not acceptable. I don’t know what made her so. I hope a probe would bring out who prompted her to make such statements,” he said.

Mr. Wazi also admitted that he was associated with BJP and had worked for saffronite leaders like Shobha Karandlaje and D N Jeevaraj.
