Expatriate Indians in Gulf countries celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr

Madinah/ Dubai, August 19: Thousands of expatriate Indians in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and other Arab countries on Sunday began Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations with offering prayers in various Masjids.

Thousands of NRI Muslims gathered at the Masjid-ul-Haram in Makkah and Masjid-e-Nabvi in Madinah to offer Eid prayer on Sunday morning.

A considerable number of Muslim expatriate worker who live in Saudi Arabian cities like Makkah, Madinah and Jubail celebrated the festival joining with the Saudi nationals.

Saudi crown prince Salman Abdul Aziz, Home Minister Prince Ahmad and Governor Makkah, Prince Khalid Al Faisal offered their prayers at Masjid-ul-Haram.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a festival where the Muslims spread the feelings of love and peace, forgetting their old problems and grudges with one another. The victory of the good over the evil forces is celebrated during this time. The people also donate food, clothes and money to the poor Islamic community.

UAE residents outpoured in their gratitude and wishes for the leaders of the country, praying for and sending their best wishes to President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and to Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Huge Eid prayer congregations were also held in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine, Libya and Egypt, where special prayers were held for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.

Muslims in US, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa are also celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday.

Mangaluru, Apr 10: Complaints have been registered after it came to light that the conditional permission to enter the Dakshina Kannada district for non-COVID-19 patients from Kerala has been misused on two occasions.

Police said on Friday that the Patients are allowed into the district after filling an online form and getting it authorised from the medical officer from Kasargod district hospital.

On April 9, a patient had arrvived at the district hospital complaining of head ache. After preliminary check up by the physician he left in an ambulance that had arrived from Kasargod earlier carrying another patient without informing the physician.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: Coronavirus surge in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today at 411  with with Udupi tallying 245 fresh cases and DK 166. 

A dozen deaths also reported from the twin districts. While DK reported seven fatalities, Udupi recorded five deaths. 

With this, Dakshina Kannada district's Covid-19 tally increased to 6,881 and the total number of deaths increased to 208. 

While the district has 3,369 active cases as on date, the day also saw 188 people getting discharged from hospitals. As many as 3,304 persons were discharged in the district so far. 

Out of seven deaths reported in Dakshina Kannada on Friday, five were from Mangaluru taluk and one each from Puttur and Belthangady taluks.

Meanwhile, out of 245 new coronavirus cases reported in Udupi on Friday, 175 are asymptomatic and 86 have no specific contact history. With this, the total number of cases in Udupi increased to 5,605, which includes 2,292 active cases. 

Udupi also reported five fatalities including a female victim, taking the district’s death toll to 55. Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said all the five victims were also suffering from various comorbidities. Udupi district has collected Rs 1,43,300 as penalty from people for violating rules related to social distancing and mask till August 6.

Mangaluru, Jun 3: A banner that read "Veer Savarkar Flyover Pumpwell" surfaced on the sidewall of the Pumpwell flyover in Mangaluru on Tuesday night.

It is suspected that activists of Bajrang Dal put up the controversial banner. Though it was removed later, it sparked debates on social media and photos of it went viral.

The development comes amid the controversy over the naming of a flyover at Yelahanka in Bengaluru after Savarkar.

A Hindutva ideologue, Savarkar has tendered apology to British imperialists and pledged to support them following his arrest during India’s freedom movement.
