Dr Shafik Dharamsi releases 'Mullerpulse-2012'

Mangalore, August 22: 'Mullerpulse-2012', the annual magazine of Fr Muller Medical College was released on Tuesday on the premises of College at Kankanady here.

Speaking after releasing the magazine, Dr Shafik Dharamsi, Associate Prof, University of British Columbia, Canada, said that such magazines were like 'time machines' that helps refresh memories of students life even after many years.

He said that magazines are also helpful in raising a voice against various issues and to write to help others. Writings also helps in expressing one's thoughts, he opined.

Fr Muller Charitable Institutions director Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Fr Muller Medical College administrator Fr Denis D'Sa, FMMC dean J P Alva, Pullerplus staff advertiser R P Pai and author of Small Things That Matter Much Edmond Fernandes were present on the occasion.

Coronavirus forces Modi govt to defer NPR, first phase of Census

New Delhi, Mar 25: The exercise to update the National Population Register (NPR) and the first phase of the Census 2021 will not be held as scheduled due to the 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officials said on Tuesday.

Both the exercises were supposed to be carried out from April 1 to September 30.
Due to the prevailing situation, the NPR and Census exercises have been deferred till further orders, a senior home ministry official said.
The Prime Minister has announced a 21-day lockdown across the country from Tuesday night due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

'Final decision on KPCC president expected soon'

Bengaluru, Jan 16: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and other leaders are likely to make the final decision on the name of the next Congress president of Karnataka soon, said party leader Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday.

"He (Siddaramaiah) has met all the leaders and I think soon they will make a decision. It has already been delayed, it should not have been delayed so much. I am sure high command will take a decision on this," Rao told reporters here.

Both Siddaramaiah and Gundu Rao had resigned from their posts, Leader of Congress Legislature Party and KPCC president, after the party's drubbing in the bye-elections held for 15 Assembly seats last year.

Karnataka reports 11 new COVID-19 cases, total count spikes to 534

Bengaluru, Apr 29: As many as 11 more people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Karnataka, said the State's Health Department on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, 11 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 5 pm on April 28 to 5 pm on April 29.

"With this, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in the state has mounted to 534, of which 20 deaths have been reported and 215 people have recovered," added the statement.

Of 20 coronavirus patients who died, one death was due to the non-COVID cause, the statement further said.
