Mangalore, August 23: Amidst the fear of outbreak of leptospirosis in the region a teenager has reportedly succumbed to rat fever in a remote village in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
The deceased has been identified as Vishwanath, son of Soma Mugera, a resident of Hathyadka in Arasinamakki village.
Vishwanath had been undergoing treatment for fever at a hospital in Puttur. As his health condition continued to worsen, he was shifted to Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore, where he breathed his last on Wednesday night without responding to any treatment.
He was a second year student of Gurudeva Pre University College in Belthangady.
Meanwhile a team of health officials have rushed to Arasinamakki village to take precautionary measures and create awareness among the people about rat fever.
