Private bus operators resort to lightning strike after RTO employee assaults driver

Udupi, August 23: Following an assault on the driver of a private bus, all the service bus operators of private sector in Udupi resorted to a lightning strike for over two hours on Thursday morning.

The incident happened when the driver of an RTO vehicle in an attempt to protest the rash and negligent driving assaulted a driver identified as Ashok.

In fact, Ashok had driven his bus on the wrong side at Kinnimulki junction, where the RTO driver was getting down from his vehicle.

He chased the bus and stopped the bus and also took the driver to task for driving on the wrong side. He even went on to the extent of slapping the driver. In a protest all the bus operators resorted to strike.

DySP Prabhudev Mane intervened and threatened the bus driver of booking him in the attempt to murder case. Finally he was successfull in resolving the issue amicably and bus services were reinstated.

Kasaragod, Apr 7: The new COVID Hospital at the Kasaragod Medical College has started functioning, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday.

The new administrative block of Kasaragod Medical College was converted into a COVID-19 Hospital for providing better treatment facilities to the coronavirus patients, the Chief Minister said while addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

Stating that the hospital was converted to a Corona Care Hospital in just four days, he said 200 beds and 10 ICU beds are now ready.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who had earlier announced that Indira canteen will supply free meals to the poor and BPL card holders, on Tuesday announced that Indira Canteens will be remain closed as there is fear of spread of the coronavirus as people assemble in large number.

On Monday, he had announced that Indira Canteens would provide food free of cost for the benefit of daily wage workers and poor people in the wake of a complete lockdown.

Asked about the alternative the government would provide, he said, "Closure of canteens is needed to avoid the rush near the canteen as it may lead to problems.

Mangaluru, May 18: A boat which was engaged in an operation to fix the pipe relating to the reverse osmosis plant of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) at Tannibavi turned turtle due to strong wind.

Two workers had gone missing in the incident that occurred on Sunday late evening, and one of them was rescued shortly thereafter.

The person who has not yet been found happens to be Pandu Pist from Mumbai. The person who was rescued was Santosh from Dakshina Kannada.

Three workers from West Bengal who were facing danger were also rescued.
