Minister asks govt. docs to embark on PG courses to tackle shortage of experts

Udupi, August 23: Minister for Health and Family Welfare Aravind Limbavali has urged the government doctors to upgrade their expertise by undergoing post-graduation courses.


Speaking after laying foundation stone for the upgradation of Government Hospital Ajjarkad, here, on Thursday he admitted that Karnataka is running short of as many as 899 experts with Post Graduate qualification. Government doctors enrolling themselves to PG courses is one of the ways to solve this problem he added.


He lamented that in spite of the lucrative salary of up to Rs 80,000 per month being offered by the government, most of the doctors were not ready join the government service.


Admiring the MBBS doctors who joined government services, he said that despite hailing from the creamy layer of the society they joined the government service just to serve the people.


He urged them to continue with their commitment without coming out to streets to press for any of their demands, which would affect the life of the patients.


Mr Limbavali promised that the government is committed to upgrade the District Hospital Udupi to a 200 bed hospital from the present 125 beds.


The minister also inaugurated the modernised Dialysis Center and the Laboratory in the hospital.


Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, District Surgeon Anand Nayak, DHO Dr Ramachandra Bairy and President of Hospital Development Committee P Rabeendra Nayak were present among others.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Police have arrested a person on charges of spreading malicious comments against the Karnataka government staff engaged in the prevention of the novel coronavirus in the district.

City Police Commissioner Harsha on Tuesday tweeted, “One Nizam has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on court orders for spreading malicious content on social media through a platform idunammadhwani.. regarding various government functionaries engaged in anti-COVID-19 work and spreading rumours.”

Bantwal, Jun 5: A very rare white python, which had entered a house at Kavalakatte in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada, was caught by snake catcher Snake Kiran on Friday handed over to the authorities of Pilikula Nisargadhama.

This extremely rare white coloured python known as Albino was seen in the house of one Naushad.

The occupants of the house as well as residents of the area were panicky over seeing it. 

Later a friend of Naushad informed Snake Kiran who caught it and handed over to the care of Pilikula as per the advice of forest officer Sridhar.

Kannur, Jun 21: Customs sleuths on Sunday seized 432 grams of gold worth around Rs 20 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Dubai in Fly Dubai flight, scheduled under Vande Bharat Mission.

Customs Assistant Commissioner E Vikas-led team seized the smuggled gold from the passenger Usman of Malappuram district and detained him, sources said.

The seized gold was kept in his inner-wear.
