Mangalore, August 24: The inaugural ceremony of the Jamiyyatul Falah Ladies Hostel situated at Bolar Shadi Mahal building, in the city was held on Friday.

The hostel was symbolically inaugurated by B. Ahmed Haji Mohiyuddin, President of B.A. Group, Thumbay, who handed over the keys to Khaleel Ahmed, President of JF Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, and B.S. Basheer Haji, President of JF Mangalore Unit.

Delivering the inaugural address, Mr Mohiyuddin pointed out that religions stressed that women should be treated with kindness. He said that one who was the most worthy to be treated with kindness was a mother. It is from there that the second generation is groomed, he said.

Quoting Prophet Muhammad as having said “take care of your women folk”, he said that the newly constructed ladies hostel was an example to the statement. He cited examples of various female personalities in the past who were an inspiration to the society, such as Asiya (wife of Pharoah) who had always supported Prophet Moses, Khadija (wife of Prophet) who was the first lady to embrace Islam, Mother Theresa who served the poor in Calcutta, and the more recent Kalpana Chawla, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal and Mary Kom.

He said that man was a social animal, and living together taught us new things and talents. “There is a lot of difference between hostel life and life at home. Along with freedom, people from different backgrounds staying together can learn different things about each other. One gets re-assurances, while staying together. There is also no irritation of having to answer to everyone as in a joint family,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Fathima Meharoon, Principal of Hira Women's College, congratulating Mangalore City Corporation unit of Jamiyyatul Falah for inaugurating a ladies hostel in the city said that the hostel required constant direction and supervision too. “Nowadays educated women are seen most in urban areas. It is a boon that a hostel for ladies has been built so that they can avail more opportunities here in the city,” she said.

According to her, a woman was the one who held the family together; therefore it was important that she was educated. “An Islamic environment for the women should be maintained in the hostel and they should also be given training in religious values along with boarding,” she opined.

“We should bring welfare to the society and it will come back to us,” said Fathima Meharoon.

There are currently 40 rooms constructed above the Shadi Mahal, which can accommodate as many as 120 students at a time.

Wishing well for the hostel, Gulzar Banu, Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation, said that she hoped the students would avail the facilities provided in the hostel and become good citizens.

Khaleel Ahmed, in his presidential speech, said that the project was made possible because of B.S. Basheer's support and dedication.

On the occasion, a second year MBBS student at Fr Muller's Medical College, was handed over a cheque of Rs 40,000 as scholarship.

Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar, Qazi of Mangalore, offered Du'a. B.S. Basheer welcomed the gathering.

New Delhi, Jan 26: On the occasion of the 71st Republic Day, Karnataka state's tableau depicted the philosophy of Basaveshwara and the concept of Anubhava Mantapa (Centre for Experience), which was the socio-religious centre that existed in the present-day Basava Kalyana of Bidar district in Karnataka.

It is regarded as the first religious parliament in the history of mankind.

This 12th-century centre has a special significance in the history of humanity, as it represents composite culture, philosophy, spirituality, equality among other universal human values.

These values were propagated by the saint and social reformer- Basaveshwara and other sharanas- followers of Basava philosophy of the socio-religious movement.

It is significant that representatives of Anubhava Mantapa were nominated based on their spiritual attainment, regardless of caste, class and sect they belonged and thus discarded the differentiation of human beings as higher or lower, on the basis of birth, occupation and gender.

The front part of the tableau has the replica of Basaveshwara preaching his most cherished value - "Work is Worship".

For Republic Day Parade 2020, a total of 56 tableaux proposals (32 from states/UTs and 24 from Ministries/Departments) were received. Out of these, 22 were shortlisted for participation in the Republic Day Parade 2020.

Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), May 19: Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has issued a fatwa asking Muslims to offer their Eid prayers this time at home, instead of congregating at mosques.

The directive comes amid a nationwide lockdown to slow down the spread of coronavirus.

Despite the relaxations announced in the lockdown, religious and other large gatherings are still banned.

The fatwa was issued in response to a query put to the seminary, its spokesman Ashraf Usmani said.

The fatwa said the Eid namaz can be offered in the same manner that the Friday prayers are now being read at home.

It said not holding the namaz in the usual manner is pardonable in circumstances such as these.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: A day after senior Congress leaders in Karnataka met to build consensus for the way ahead, the race for the post of KPCC President hotted up on Sunday with aspirants and their supporters stepping up efforts to secure the coveted posts.

Senior leader D K Shivakumar, seen as a frontrunner for the post, met former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his residence amid reports that he was lobbying in favour of one of his confidants.

Meanwhile, another senior party legislator Satish Jarkiholi made it clear he was capable of discharging the responsibility if the high command asked him to do so.

Also, loyalists of senior leader and former Minister Ramalinga Reddy came up with social media posts, pushing forward his name for KPCC President.

Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah and state Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao quit their posts after the party fared poorly, winning only two of the 15 seats in the bypolls while it had held 12 of them.

According to party sources, though Siddaramaiah is likely to retain the position of Leader of Opposition, the CLP leader post may be given to some one else.

The sources also said replacement of KPCC President was most likely as Dinesh Gundu Rao's resignation could be accepted.

Shivakumar is seen as the frontrunner for the KPCC President post and has already held discussions with high command in this regard.

His meeting with Siddaramaiah, who is expected to travel to Delhi soon to hold discussions with the high command, assumes significance amid reports that the former chief minister was favouring one of his confidants for the post.

Shivakumar during the meeting sought Siddaramaiah's cooperation for his appointment to the coveted post, with a promise to work under his leadership, sources said.

However, speaking to reporters after the meeting, Shivakumar said he had worked under Siddaramaiah as legislator and Minister, and there was nothing special about the nearly two-hour-long meeting.

"...Im not a competitor for any post, I won't ask for any post, that time is over. I'm a karyakarta of the party and will work as karyakarta," he said in response to a question, adding he will abide by the party's decision.

On the other hand, Congressleader andYamakanamaradi MLASatish Jarkiholi said he was ready to take up the responsibility if the party high command decides so.

"It has been decided to cooperate and work under the leadership of anyone, whom the party high command decides (as President). Let's see, it is for the high command to decide (who will be KPCC President)," he said.

In response to a question from reporters in Belagavi if he was aspiring for the post, Jarikholi said, "I havent asked, but if given I will manage it efficiently..."

Meanwhile, loyalist of seven-time Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy, came up with a social media post, demanding KPCC President post for the leader.

"Seven-time @INCKarnataka MLA and former Home Minister Sri @RLR_BTM for #KPCC President. #Congress #Karnataka #RamalingaReddy #BTMLayout #BBMP #Bengaluru," former Mayor of Bengaluru City and a close confidant of Reddy, B N Manjunatha Reddy tweeted.

Last year during the political turmoil faced by the coalition government, Ramalinga Reddy had threatened to resign, unhappy at being sidelined in the party.

He had later decided to stay with the Congress after the high command intervened.

With a virtual vacuum in the state Congress following the resignation of its top leadership after the rout in the recent Assembly bypolls, senior party leaders had met here on Saturday with an aim to build a consensus for the way ahead.

According to sources, the meeting was convened after instructions from the high command to iron out differences and build consensus on taking the party forward and regarding appointments to key posts, before coming to Delhi for discussions.

Senior leader K H Muniyappa and KPCC Working President Eshwar Khandreare seen as the other aspirants for the President post.

Ssenior leaders G Parameshwara along with H K Patil are among those seen as the frontrunners for the CLP leader post vacated by Siddaramaiah.
