Master plan for govt. medical college in Kasargod

Kasargod, August 25: A detailed project report on the proposed government medical college in Kasaragod has been submitted to the government, said P.G.R. Pillai, special officer of the college.

The report, prepared after conducting extensive surveys, was recently submitted to Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar, who forwarded it to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, he said. “I expect the formal clearance for the project shortly after Onam,” said Dr. Pillai.

The proposed College would come up on 65 acres of revenue land at Ukkinadukka in Badiadukka village.

He said KITCO had been entrusted with the task of construction of the college building complex. A core group committee headed by N.A. Nellikunnu and Deputy District Medical Officer Vimnl Raj will coordinate the preliminary works of the proposed college. The plan envisaged 16 major departments. The institution would have a building complex for hospital, medical college, central library, water treatment plant, electrical sub-station, hostel

accommodation for students, quarters for hospital staff and doctors, playground, auditorium, well connected by road networks.

The proposed 500-bed hospital complex along with basic infrastructure facilities would be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 71 crore in the very first year. Dr. Pillai said the construction of the medical

college would commence in the second year. Admission for the first batch would begin by the end of 2014. Dr. Pillai said the hospital would be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

Bengaluru, Mar 2: The Karnataka Department of Public Instruction has directed the School heads across the State to grant leave to students and staff suffering from fever, cold, cough and other respiratory infections.

As precautionary measure following the COVID-19 (known as coronavirus) outbreak at the global level, the department issued a circular in this regard here on Monday.

If any student, teacher or staff is suffering from respiratory infections, they should be granted leave. They should be allowed to come back to school only after confirming from the doctor that they are cured, the circular added.

Bengaluru, May 29: The Karnataka government has requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to reduce the number of flights, emanating from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to the state in view of the high number of Covid-19 Cases prevalent there.

In a clarification issued to the Media this evening, the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr J C Madhuswamy has said that Karnataka has not sought for imposing a ban on flights emanating from these places, as reported in some sections of the Media.

Karnataka has appealed to the Civil Aviation Ministry to take steps to lessen the air traffic to the State, with the sacred intention that there may not be adequate quarantine facilities if there is huge turnout at a short period, he added.

Bengaluru, Jul 6: With a record 1,925 new cases across the state during the last 24 hours, Karnataka's Covid-19 tally rose to 23,474 including 13,251 active after 9,847 were discharged till date, an official said on Sunday.

"Of the total cases across the state on a single day, Bengaluru accounted for 1,235, taking its positive tally to 9,580, including 8,167 active," said the health official in a statement.

With 37 succumbing to the disease in the state, including 16 from Bengaluru, the state's death toll increased to 372, with 145 from this tech city since March 9.

Of the 603 discharged from across the state during the day, 302 were from Bengaluru, taking its total number of cured to 1,267 so far.

Of the 243 cases in the intensive care unit (ICU) across the state, 132 are in Bengaluru, 15 at Dharwad, 12 at Kalaburagi and 10 each at Ballari and Raichur.

Of the 16,899 samples tested in the day, 14,649 were negative and 1,925 positive. Of the total 7,06,425 samples tested so far, 6,65,525 were negative and 23,474 positive.

After Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada reported 142 positive cases followed by Ballari 90, Vijayapura 57, Kalaburagi 49 and Udupi and Dharwad 45 each.

Of the total 603 discharged, 52 were from Kalaburagi, 37 from Ballari, 36 from Dakshina Kannada and 22 each from Udupi and Dharwad.
