Ambedkar Prathishthana promises to adopt 'backward village'

Mangalore, August 28: Dr B R Ambedkar Prathishthana would adopt the backward village of Koyyur in Belthangady taluk for a period of five years and develop it into a model village, according to Prathishthana state president Shivappa Renkadaguthu.

Announcing this at a media conference here on Tuesday, Mr Renkadaguthu said that as part of the mission the Prathishthana would provide free electricity for five years to all the people in the village currently living without it. Shobha Karandlaje, Minister for Electricity who has been notified about this step, had given assurances of providing the necessary assistance, he said.

Fertilisers would be distributed free of cost to all the farmers in the village. Houses would be constructed for the homeless. Every underprivileged home would be provided with household items and clothes. A medical practitioner would be appointed to the village along with an ambulance, he said.

Mr Shivappa said that the project would be inaugurated by RSS leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. Along with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, five former Chief Ministers of the State D V Sadananda Gowda, B S Yeddyurappa, S M Krishna, H D Kumaraswamy and M Veerappa Moily would also participate in the event, he said.

But he could not furbish information as to how funds would be raised to undertake such a project; nor could he specify when the project would be launched. The inauguration would be held within a month, he said.

“The village of Koyyur will be developed in a way that it would prove as an example to all existing backward villages. Presently, drinking water is being supplied free of cost to the Gram Panchayat from my land. A request will be made to the government to facilitate the supply of free water to the entire village in future,” he said.

Bengaluru, May 3: Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Saturday said that those who want to travel from other states to Karnataka and vice-versa must register on 'Sevasindhu' website.

"Those who want to travel from other states to Karnataka and from Karnataka to other states must register on 'Sevasindhu' website, then all intimation will be shared from the government side," Kumar said.

Karnataka Health Department on Saturday said that three deaths and 12 new COVID-19 cases were reported in last 24 hours in the state.

According to the Health Department, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the state is now 601. 271 patients have either been cured or discharged. The virus has killed 25 people so far in the state.

Bengaluru, Feb 4: A 33-year old woman techie allegedly stabbed her mother to death and made a murderous assault on her younger brother before fleeing their home here, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman fatally stabbed her mother using a knife and attacked the brother early on Monday.

The injured brother has been hospitalised here.

A search was on for the techie and the motive for her action under investigation, police said.

The woman, employed as a software engineer with a company here, earlier had told her mother and 30-year old brother that she has been transferred to Hyderabad and she may have to relocate.

The brother told police that in the early morning on Monday he saw his sister searching something desperately and offered to assist, which she refused.

However, minutes later she made a murderous assault on him, he told police, adding when he screamed for help and called his mother, his sister said she has killed their mother.

She stabbed him and attacked with an iron rod before fleeing, her brother told police.

The body of the mother was found in another room in the house.

"We are still investigating the matter. We are not clear about the motive behind the murder," a police officer told media adding the woman was yet to be arrested.

Udupi, May 25: In an early morning robbery, two miscreants snatched around 1.2 kilo grams of gold jewelleries from a jeweller and ran away in Udupi.

The incident took place at around 5:30 am near Beedinagudde junction when jeweller Vijay was carrying the gold for lapidary work from his house at Bannanje to his store at Sri Laxmi Towar in Beedinagudde. 

They bumped into him when he going to the second floor of the Sri Laxmi Towar.

According to him, the miscreants who were wearing helmets threatened him with a knife then robbed jewelleries worth around Rs 50 lakh.

While decamping, the robbers also snatched his mobile phone and threw down from building.

Udupi town police conducted the spot investigation and registered a case. Further investigations are on.
