One killed, 34 injured as LPG tanker explodes in Kannur

Kasargod, August 28: A woman was killed when an LPG tanker lorry burst into flames after an accident and set her house nearby on fire near the Chala temple, six km from Kannur, police said on Tuesday. Thirty-four people were injured in the accident.

The incident occurred when the lorry carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned after hitting a divider around 11.30 pm on Monday.

While the driver and a helper ran for safety, the vehicle caught fire and the flames engulfed five houses and some shops nearby.

A 50-year-old woman, Sreelatha, died in the fire. She was sleeping, when her house, 200 metres from the accident site, caught fire. She succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

The condition of seven of those injured is stated to be serious, said doctors. Twenty-seven more people suffered from burn injuries and are being treated in Kannur and Kozhikode hospitals.

"We were around five km from the accident spot and heard a huge explosion and bright lights," said a witness. "Had there been no heavy rain at that time, the disaster would have been greater."

After the accident, Kerala Chief Minister OommenChandy rushed to Kannur on Tuesday and met district authorities.

Mangaluru: Thousands travel from Ullal to join anti-CAA protest in Kasba Bengre

Mangaluru, Jan 21: Thousands of people today boarded boats from Ullal's Kotepura to join a massive protest against the amended Citizenship Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Kasba Bengre, here.

People traveling through boats and steamers decorated with national flags, raised slogans during their journey through the river.

The innovative mode of transportation was used by the protestors to reach the venue, as it not only saved time but was also more convenient for the fishermen, a large number of people from this community joined the protest.

The protestors docked their boats at the shore and reached the venue chanting slogans of azadi.

Mangaluru: Pvt medical college hospitals instructed to treat Wenlock patients at govt hospital fare

Mangaluru, Apr 20: As Wenlock hospital has been converted into corona hospital, all the heads of private medical college hospitals have been instructed to treat Wenlock Hospital's out patients and in patients at a government hospital fare or at the charges of Wenlock Hospital, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Sunday.

Treatment is also been given at Bijai, Yekkur, Kulur, Jeppu, Surathkal, Kulai, Padil, Shaktinagar, Bengre and Bunder Primary Health Centers. Patients with MLC (Medico Legal Case) or Police Case may seek treatment at a private medical college or city primary center.

Some private hospitals have already agreed to provide free dialysis services, as requested by the government.

Dakshina Kannada clocks 50 fatalities to covid-19

Mangaluru, July 13: With the confirmation of four more deaths related to novel coronavirus, the covid-19 death toll in Dakshina Kannada has mounted to 50.

In fact, the four fatalities had occurred on Saturday. Today the authorities concerned that they were tested positive for Covid-19.

The deceased include two septuagenarians, a sexagenarian, and a 53-year-old. All of them were male.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh revealed that their comorbidities were diabetes in ICU, pneumonia in ICU, hepatitis in ICU, severe acute respiratory infection and carcinoma of the lung respectively.
