Nagesh Shetty elected as president of Bunts Bahrain

Mangalore, August 30: Bunts Bahrain, an organisation of Bunt community residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has elected Karmar Nagesh Shetty as president for the year 2012-13, announced Bhaskar Rai Kukkavali, Editor-in-charge of 'Namma Samparka' monthly.

Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday, he said that under the leadership of Mr Shetty various programmes would be held as part of decennial year celebrations of Bunts Bahrain. Funds are also being collected for various schemes proposed by the organisation for the year 2012-13, he said.

A friendly get-together will be held on September 7 at Sitra Baba garden, Bahrain, and a summer-cum-induction ceremony will be conducted on October 19 at Hotel Ramada Palace, he said.

Speaking about the future plans, Nagesh Shetty said that along with social and cultural programmes for the Bunt community, the organisation would also be rendering service to the society.

He said that the organisation took an interest in construction of homes, provision of educational and medical aid to the underprivileged, and had so far provided financial help to several families who had appealed for help.

He said that various personalities such as Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty, N. Vinay Hegde of Nitte University, former minister B Ramanath Rai, former Lokayukta N Santhosh Hegde, Dr B R Shetty of Abu-Dhabi, Dr M Mohan Alva of Alva's Educational Institution and Harish Shetty had taken part in programmes conducted by the organisation.

Vasudeva R Kottary, K Lakshminarayan Rai Harekala and Shobha N Shetty were present at the press meet.

Mangaluru, June 29: Six more personnel from Ullal Police Station in Mangaluru taluk have tested positive for covid-19. 

With this, the total number of covid positive cops from the Ullal Police Station mounted to 10.

Official sources said that throat swabs of five police personnel and a Home Guard from Ullal today received positive report today. Earlier, four other cops were tested positive. 

In addition to the police personnel, two undertrials arrested by the Ullal police on the charges of murder attempt at Thokkottu Olapete too were tested positive for Covid-19 June 28.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the "RSS needs to be defeated to save the country" and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are "destroying the nation".

Kharge was speaking at a KPCC program where DK Shivakumar took charge as state Congress president.

He said that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are not ready to take accountability for any issues including China, and are instead blaming Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of getting funds from China.

"Rajiv Gandhi foundation utilized funds for the development of the nation and for the betterment of the downtrodden people," Kharge said.

"Prime Minister Modi and Shah both are destroying the economy of the nation, and their policies and plans are the reason for increasing COVID-19 situation in India," he said.

"Prime Minister and Amit Shah never listen to Opposition parties, instead they plan something and their policies are the reason for MSME losses and job losses in the country," he added.

Mangaluru, May 18: The coastal city of Mangaluru and other parts of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are receiving heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder.

The rain, which started in the wee hours, continued to lash for hours. It brought much relief from the sweltering heat.

Waterlogged roads in different parts of Mangaluru cause inconvenience to motorists. The clouds were so dark that the drivers were forced to switch on the headlights while driving vehicles in the morning.

The IMD has predicted heavy rain in the coastal Karnataka for next two days.

Lighting claims a life

Meanwhile, a youth died after lightning struck him at Paduyenagudde in Katpadi of Udupi district on Sunday late night. The deceased was identified as Bharat. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he failed to respond to the treatment.
