Mentally retarded Puttur man makes it to World Record books

Mangalore, August 31: Suresh Naik from Puttur, a mentally retarded person, has made his way into record books for his unique memory power.

Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Friday, Umesh Naik, his brother, said that Mr. Suresh's name has been included in the Limca Book of World Records following an event organized by the Limca Records authorities in Vijayvada, where Mr. Suresh recalled the names of 518 people with their telephone numbers noted in his diary, in 1 hour and 12 minutes. His name has also been included in the Asia Book of Records for possessing 'world's largest tongue' (measuring 10 cms from tip of the tongue to lips).

Limca has also recognized Mr. Suresh's four finger divisions by including another record of 'unique palm', Mr. Naik added.

Although aged 40, Mr. Suresh who suffers from Down Syndrome, possesses an IQ of mere 22. His social age according to doctors is 6.6 years. Mr. Suresh is an example that a person's weakness can be converted into his strength, Mr. Naik said.

Mr. Suresh actively participates in programmes of Puttur Sri Laxmivenkatarama Temple. He also works as a telephone operator at Puttur Shriram Shares.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.

Bengaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka government has launched an aggressive awareness campaign against the novel coronavirus across the state with a special focus on its bordering areas in wake of the three confirmed cases of the deadly pathogen in neighbouring Kerala.

According to Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, "All necessary information on the virus, its symptoms and precautions are being announced at public places like bus stops via radio from time to time."

“A video regarding the same is also being played in 500 cinema halls, advising masses to take precautions," he said.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: A case has been registered against an Infosys employee in Bengaluru for a shocking social media post urging people to "go out and sneeze" and spread the highly contagious COVID-19 virus that has infected over 800 people across the country and claimed 19 lives.

"Let's join hands, go out and sneeze with open mouth in public. Spread the virus," the man wrote on Facebook.
"A case has been registered against the person. Further investigation on. Looking forward to get adequate support from your end during investigation," Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Bengaluru city tweeted by tagging along a tweet by Infosys.
Taking congnisance of the post by its employee, the Infosys said the post was "against the code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing".
"Infosys has completed its investigation on the social media post by one of its employees and we believe that this is not a case of mistaken identity," the company said in a statement on Twitter.
"The social media post by the employee is against Infosys' code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee," the statement added.

Earlier this month, the IT firm had vacated one of its buildings in Bengaluru after an employee was suspected to be infected.
