Another youth arrested from Hyderabad for alleged terror links

Hyderabad/Bangalore, September 1: Yet another youth identified as, Obaid-ur-Rahman, was arrested from Hyderabad for alleged links with terror organisations, source said.

26-year-old Obaid, a degree student residing at Gulshan Iqbal Colony in Chandrayangutta area of Old City, has been brought to Bangalore for questioning.

Besides Obaid, the visiting team is also reported to have taken along at least four more youngsters even as the Hyderabad police remained tight-lipped over the swift operation by the Bangalore police.

Two of them have been identified as Mohammed Akram, a resident of Hussain Nagar and Khairullah of Teegalkunta.


The development comes after 11 men, including a journalist and a junior scientist, were arrested by police in Bangalore and Hubli.

According to sources, Obaid was picked up from Kanchanbagh Friday evening by a special team from the Central Crime Branch of Bangalore police.

Police said that he was picked up based on the confession of the suspects picked up in Karnataka on Thursday.

All the 11 arrested have been sent to a 14-day police custody and are being questioned.

The police have accused the arrested of having links with terror groups like the HUJI and Lashkar. Police also accused them of plotting to assassinate some politicians, journalists and some representatives of Hindu groups.

Sources say that at least four of the suspects will be taken to Hubli for further investigation. According to police, it was from the residence of one of the accused in Hubli in North Karnataka that an imported 7.65mm weapon was seized. Along with it, several documents, some bullets and CDs with some data was recovered by the police.

Mangaluru, May 20: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, a Class 10 student who was preparing for the final examinations drowned in Adyapady dam on the outskirts of the city yesterday.

The victim is Mallik, 17, a resident of Mulur village in Gurpur. The tragedy occurred when Mallik along with some others had come to the dam to catch fish.

According to the police, he accidentally slipped into the waters and drowned. His body was recovered later. 

Jurisdictional Bajpe police have registered a case of unnatural death and investigations are underway.

Bengaluru, Mar 18: Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, taking the tally of infected persons in the state to 13, Health Minister B Sriramulu said on Wednesday.

A 56-year-old man, a resident of Bengaluru had returned to India from the US on March 6 while the second person is a 25-yr-old woman with a travel history to Spain.

"2 more COVID-19 cases have been registered in Bengaluru today, taking the total infected cases to 13. 56-year-old male, resident of Bengaluru returned from the USA on 6th March. Another 25-yr-old female has returned from Spain," Sriramulu said in a post on his Twitter account.

A total of 147 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday.

Mangaluru, Jan 15: Popular Front of India leader Mohammed Saqib came down heavily on Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha for justifying the Dec 19 firing which claimed two Muslim lives in the city.  

He was addressing a mammoth crowd of around two lakh people, mostly Muslims, who had gathered at Shah Garden at Adyar in Mangaluru today to register their protest against CAA, NRP, NRC, besides police atrocities on Muslims in Mangaluru.

Criticising the way the commissioner handled the situation on December 19, he said the people have all the right to agitate when their citizenship is endangered. 

“Two men lost their lives. Then Commissioner started releasing misleading videos (to justify the killing),” he said questioning the top cop: “Who are you? Are you a British?” 

“What kind of doctor you are? You are a doctor in creating false stories,” he said whiling taking on the top cop for claiming that protesters had tried to storm the Mangaluru North Police Station.
