Abdussalam Puthige's 'Kannadadali Qur'an Anuvada' released

Udupi, September 1: Senior journalist Abdussalam Puthige's much awaited Kannada translation of holy Quran 'Kannadadali Qur'an Anuvada' was finally released in a grand function here on Saturday.

Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D Veerendra Heggade, who released the book, laid emphasis on the significance of maintaining peace and unity in the society.

He exhorted the followers of all the communities to follow the noble teachings of their sacred scriptures Quran, Bible and Gita to eliminate crime and restore peace in the society. “Implement the good teachings of your sacred scriptures in your life”, he stressed.

Upholding the concept of 'unity in diversity', he said that followers of a particular religion or religious scripture should not hate other religions or religious scriptures. “Coexistence and mutual understanding is the need of hour”, he added.

Terming Quran as a book of peace and harmony, Mr Heggade said that it is an unfortunate development that a few Muslim youths have chosen the path of extremism and terrorism in the name of Islam.

Giving a brief introduction to his translation, Mr Puthige said that Qur'an is a guide for a man throughout his life.

Noted Kannada poet K S Nisar Ahmed, Udupi District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K. Jayaprakash Hegde, priest of Mother of Sorrows Church Rev. Fr. Fredrick Mascarenhas, and president of Udupi District Kannada Sahitya Parishat Neelavar Surendra Adiga were also present.

Published by the Madhyama Prakashan, Bangalore, the 687 page book has a face value of Rs 180. An important aspect of this book is the lucidity of the language.

Eid get-together

The book release was followed by an Eid harmony meet organised by the Forum for Humanity in association with the Lions, Lioness, and Leo Clubs. District Lions Governor K. Madhusudhan Hegde inaugurated the meet. Businessman G. Shankar presided over. Convener of the Forum Mohammed Yasin Malpe delivered the Eid message.

Manglauru, July 30: There will be no congregational prayer on Eid Al-Adha at the historic Eidgah mosque in Mangluru’s lighthouse hill this year due to covid-19 pandemic. 

The decision to suspend the Eid prayers in Eidgah was taken as per the guidelines issued by the State Board of Auqaf, said Haji Y Abdullah Kunhi, president of Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid.

However, Eid prayer will be held at Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid on July 31 at 7 a.m.

Muslims in coastal Karnataka will be celebrating Eid al-Adha on July 31 whereas Muslims in other parts of Karnataka and India are celebrating the festival on August 1.

Mangaluru, May 21: The coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today recorded six fresh covid-19 positive cases. With this the total cases reported in the district so far rose to 61.

It is learnt that all the six new covid-19 patients are those who had returned to Mangaluru from Dubai on May 18. 

Al the six patients are male. Among them two people aged 44 years and three others aged 35, 42, 60 are residents of Dakshina Kannada. Another one is 29-year-old from Kalaburagi. 

They were under institutional quarantine after their return. After their throat swab tests confirmed the disease, they were shifted to covid-19 hospital in the city.

Mangaluru, June 27: The district health authorities are likely to conduct mass random testing for Covid-19 in Ullal town on the outskirts of the city in the wake of detection of several new coronavirus positive cases there in past couple few days.  

An elderly woman from Azad Nagar in Ullal was died of coronavirus earlier this week. Many others including a couple of policemen also tested positive for the deadly virus in vicinity.

Following this, local elected representatives including MLA U T Khader and religious leaders of Ullal held a meeting regarding taking steps to control the spread of the virus. In the meeting Mr Khader suggested the authorities to conduct random testing in Ullal town. 

Apart from Azad Nagar, covid-19 cases have surfaced in Kodi, Bangera Lane and in the surroundings of police station and Sahara Hospital triggering panic among people. Hence, the authorities are like to conduct random testing of auto rickshaw drivers, fishermen, street vendors among others. 

Meanwhile, several mosques in Ullal have reportedly decided to suspend congregational prayers temporarily.
