Mangalore, September 2: A felicitation programme for Akhil R M, an 8th standard student and son of a Head Constable, who won a Gold medal at an international chess tournament held in Malaysia recently, was held at Pandeshwar Police Station on Sunday.
Akhil is the son of Meera, Head Constable, Finger Prints Department.
Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Ms Meera said that Akhil bagged the gold medal in the U-14 category at the international chess tournament held in Malaysia from August 19-26. He obtained training from Derek's Chess School and coach Parasanna Rao had accompanied him to Malaysia, she said.
Akhil has also bagged prizes in other national and state chess tournaments in the past.
ACP Jagannath and Bharati, Pandeshwar SI, were present.
