Bhatkal, September 4: An arrest brings with it several headaches and sorrows for the family members of the one taken into custody and the story of Fathima, the wife of Sadiq Lashkar, one of those arrested by the CCB on terror charges recently, is no different.

Ms. Fathima who hails from Bhatkal is the second wife of Sadiq. Her marriage to Sadiq was also her second marriage after she had obtained Talaq (divorce) from her first husband. A divorcee who was living her life with two children from her first husband, was given a proposal by her father Mohammed Ghouse to marry Sadiq, an electrician in Hubli, with an assurance that he would take care of her adequately to which she agreed and entered into wedlock with him only recently in May earlier this year.

Good husband

According to Ms. Fathima, Sadiq was a good husband. “He had proposed to marry me as his first wife had not borne children even after three years of their marriage. He married me with the consent of his first wife and as per the Islamic law. I too had taken divorce from my husband and was looking to lead a better life so I agreed to the proposal. But as it has turned out, my life continues to be hell”, she says.

“His conduct was good. He would go to work at 11 in the morning and return only at night. He was concerned only about his work. I never saw him bringing any of his friends to the house and never saw him scold or fight with anyone. It is hard to believe that he could be associated with something like this. He has been framed and this is a conspiracy”, she says.

Worried about children

Ms. Fathima says she already has two children from her first husband and is carrying Sadiq's child in her womb as well. “I am worried about their future. His (Sadiq's) child who is yet to open his/her eyes lies in my womb and I am worried already as to what the world will refer to him/her, saying he/she is the offspring of so and so”, says Ms. Fathima expressing her concern.

Worried father

Ms. Fathima's father, Mr. Ghouse, who works in a small radio repair shop near Bhatkal's Chowk Bazaar, is equally worried. “I married her off to Sadiq thinking he was a good man. He was a person with good values. I came to know about the arrests through media after which I went to Hubli and brought my daughter back to Bhatkal. Now I am worried as to what would be the future of his child who is in my daughter's womb”, he says.

A resident of Koulpete in Hubli, Sadiq was working as an electrician. He had been named secretary of the Hubli unit of a newly formed political party too, it is learnt.

Mangaluru, Jan 31: Mahesh Vikram Hegde, the co-founder of website 'Postcard News', known for spreading fake news on behalf of Sangh Parivar, was taken aback when he was asked to sing 'Vande Mataram' to prove his patriotism by a group of women activists at Mangaluru International Airport.

The video of the incident which occurred on Friday, days after editor-in-chief and co-founder of Republic TV Arnab Goswami was heckled by comedian Kunal Kamra on a flight, went viral on social media within hours.

Hegde was spotted by social activist Kavitha Reddy, and other young orators – Najma Nazeer and Amulya Leona – at the airport where he was waiting to board a plane to Bengaluru.

In a video, the three women are seen coercing Hegde to sing 'Vande Mataram' and prove his patriotism. In another video being circulated, the women are heard telling the journalist that he is getting an opportunity to become a 'hero' from 'zero' if he sings 'Vande Mataram.' However, he refused to open his mouth.

Reddy is seen asking Hegde whether he knew the time when Nathuram Godse assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.

Hegde was arrested in 2018 for posting a fake news aimed at creating communal conflict.
