Udupi, September 4: Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar emerged champions in the Junior Category of the prestigious Verbattle debate competition.
Shivani L. Shenoy and Annapurna Chakrabarty of Class X were members of the winning team and won a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a trophy at the event which concluded in Bangalore on Friday. Sapna Rajesh, the mentor-teacher also won a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy.
A second team from Little Rock comprising Clesy Joyana Mendonca and Sanjukta Yermal also qualified to the State level.
81 teams selected from different regions participated in the competition, the release said.
The Verbattle format consists of different rounds called 'Skirmish', 'Combat', 'Confrontation' and the 'final Face-off', over three days.
Very challenging topics are given an hour before the competition for each round, and the students had to defend their positions cogently and effectively. It is a grueling test of one's knowledge, communication, and leadership skills.
Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Director Training of CBSE gave away the prizes at a glittering ceremony. Verbattle Vertex Founder and Chief Deepak Thimmaiah was also present at the function.
