Police nab 8 inter-state burglars in Puttur, solve several theft cases

Puttur, September 5: Police have solved several theft cases by arresting eight inter-state thieves in Puttur sub-division on Tuesday.

In-charge ASP Subhash Gudimani gave the identities of the arrested as Mohammed Hussainar (26), Ibrahim alias Ibbi (30), Abdul Karim alias Salim (36), Mohammed Ansar (22), M S Monu (49), Mohammed Soofi alias Soofi (26) and Ashraf (29).

Mr Gudimani told media persons that the arrested had involved in the burglary of two houses, two cooperative banks, one rubber society and one post office, in Puttur sub-division.

The gang made an attempt to rob Thaneeru Pantha Sahakari Bank, at Karaya in Belthangady on May 3. The police have recovered a car from the accused in the incident. On May 8, Ibbi and Hussainar had made an attempt to break into a post office at Ujire. The police have recovered one autorickshaw and pick-up vehicle in the incident.

From the house of Venkatramana Bhat at Kakkur, the accused Mohammed Hussainar, Ibbi, Salim and Sathar have decamped with gold and cash of Rs 53,000. However, Sathar is still absconding.

The gang was involved in the burglary of Kanakamajalu Cooperative Bank on July 23 and also theft of rubber sheets from a Rubber Society, at Ujire on August 5. The police have also recovered 22 qunital rubber sheets, auto, two-wheeler and a pick up vehicle in the incident.

The eight member gang was also involved in the theft of jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh from a house, at Panakaje on August 24. To crack the theft case, a team was constituted under the guidance of ASP M N Anucheth. The team had nabbed Hussainar on Sunday, who spilled the beans of all other ventures of the gang.

New Delhi, Jul 7: Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao's wife Tabu Gundu Rao informed that four of their employees have tested positive for coronavirus.

"Well sadly our PA, one more Gunman and 2 house staff tested positive. We are all thankfully negative but in isolation and quarantine for 10 to 14 days from today, to check if we develop symptoms as we are primary contacts to them. Hopefully we should get through this," Tabu tweeted.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 23,474 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 13,255 and 372 deaths.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: Amid growing coronavirus cases, the Karnataka government on Sunday postponed examinations of class 7, 8 and 9 till March 31, 2020.

The revised dates for examinations will be announced after reviewing the situation. The directive was issued by state education minister S Suresh Kumar on Sunday morning.

On Friday, the government had shut all educational institutions, malls, and clubs for a week.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had said no one should travel unless it is an emergency.

"All malls, cinema halls, pubs, wedding ceremonies and other large gatherings in the Karnataka have been banned for another one week," Chief Minister Yediyurappa had said.

Notably, the number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 93, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today.

So far, two deaths due to the COVID-19 have been reported in the country. In the wake of spurt in cases of coronavirus across the country, the Central Government on Saturday decided to treat the deadly virus as a "notified disaster".

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 100 countries, infecting over 1,30,000 people. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

Mangaluru, Jan 30: A dentist has been arrested by the Dakshina Kannada district police on charge of sexually harassing a woman patient during treatment at a hospital in Beltangady taluk.

The accused has been identified as Dr Sudhakar. He is facing charges under section 354, 354A(1)(I) of IPC.

The incident occurred yesterday when a local woman had been to the government hospital at Kasaba village in Beltangady for dental treatment.

According to the woman, Dr Sudhakar deliberately touched her body inappropriately and sexually harassed during treatment.

The shocked woman went to the jurisdictional Beltangady police station and lodged a complaint. The doctor was arrested and produced before the court.
