Thieves break into house, make off with car

Mulki, September 6: Thieves broke into a house belonging to a George D'Souza and made off with a car which was parked inside the compound of the house near Kinnigoli.

The stolen car was a Maruti Swift with Reg No KA 20 – N 5223. Finding nothing of any value in the house, the thieves acquired the vehicle's keys from the showcase and took away the car.

While George D'Souza had settled in Mumbai, his sister Veronica from Ullanje took care of his house, although only during day hours. It is presumed that the thieves had planned the theft were acquainted with this fact.

A complaint on the theft, which occurred in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, has been registered at Mulki police station.

Mangaluru, Jan 11: Reacting to the recent video clippings provided to the media by former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in connection with the December 19 unrest in Mangaluru, city Police Commissioner Dr PS Harsha on Saturday said that the video has to be seen in a proper sequence to come to a conclusion on the happenings of that day.

Releasing videos in bits and pieces on social media or any platform will not help disclose the truth, said Harsha.

Islamic scholars across India appeal Muslims to stay indoors during Ramadan

Newsroom, Apr 23: During the ongoing lockdown in India so as to break the chain of Coronavirus infection, Islamic scholars across India are appealing Muslims to stay indoors and observe fasting with steadfastedness in the blessed month of Ramadan.

They have urged the people to offer taraveeh and other Namaz at homes, do iftar at home and enjoy with one's family only.

During Ramadan, social distancing would be of utmost importance in order to contain the disease, they urged.

Shahi imams of Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid in the city have also appealed to Muslims to offer namaz during the holy month of Ramadan at home and follow lockdown guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Two arrested in Kundapur for threatening to kill ASHA workers

Kundapur, Apr 28: The local police have arrested two people for threatening and preventing an Associated Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers from discharging their duties during the lockdown.

Police said on Tuesday that the arrested are Sandeep Mesta and Mahesh Kharvi.

According to official sources, the health officials had put Sandeep under quarantine for 28 days.

However, he was seen wandering in the streets and ASHA worker C Laxmi warned him to stay indoors.

Irked by the warning Sandeep, along with his friend Mahesh Kharvi waylaid her and threatened to kill for objecting his movement.
