Aus backed cricket coaching in city from Sep 16

Mangalore, September 8: Cricket coaching camps will begin on September 16 at St Aloysius Centenary Grounds, Mangalore, under the joint auspices of Cricket India Academy and Cricket Australia.

Coaching will be given in three categories i.e. 'Cricket Kids' (for children between 5-8 years of age), 'Cricket Education Programme' (CEP for children between 9-14 years of age), and 'Emerging Players' (15 plus). Besides, an 'Elite Camp' will be held exclusively for Cricket Education Programme and Cricket India Acdemy participants providing specialist coaches and high performance skill development techniques. 'Summer camps' would also be held for children during their vacations.

Cricket Education Programme has been developed exclusively by Cricket Australia. A Diploma of Cricket certificate is also awarded by Cricket Australia for participants satisfying the requirements of the final level of the programme. Popular Aussie pacer Brett Lee is the Programme's Brand Ambassador along. Mike Hussey and Ellyse Perry are 'Role Models' of the programme. Pravin Amre, renowned Indian cricketer, is the Coach Director. Local coaches are trained by Cricket Australia Coach Educators and the monitoring of coach performance is done by Cricket Australia accredited Coach Assessors.

Bidar, Feb 15: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah on Friday demanded the State government to withdraw the sedition case against a mother and a teacher of Shaheen school immediately.

“The police can’t execute anything without the government’s permission. The sedition case against two women should be withdrawn immediately. I will raise the matter in the Assembly to draw the government’s attention,” Siddaramaiah told reporters after meeting the woman at the prison here. 

He clarified that he visited the woman not to support the school, but to extend moral support to her.

“I am an advocate and I can clearly establish based on my experience that staging a satirical play doesn’t amount for sedition. It doesn’t even defame anybody. Three cases of sedition have been registered across the state,” he charged.

He alleged that the government was following dual policy. Though the Supreme Court had concluded that the demolition of Babri Masjid was illegal, a play dealing with the demolition was staged at Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat’s school.
The sedition case had not been registered for staging the play.

He charged that there was an undeclared emergency in the country as the freedom of expression was being suppressed.

Bengaluru, May 4: A total of 37 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Karnataka taking the total number to 651, State Health Department said on Monday.

"Thirty seven new coronavirus positive cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from 5 pm yesterday to 5 pm today. The total number of cases in the state stands at 651," the department said.

The total number of cases includes 27 deaths and 321 persons who have been discharged. Of the remaining 302 cases, 296 patients are in isolation in designated hospitals and six patients are in ICU.

India has registered 2,553 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and the total number of cases now stands at 44,532.

Hassan, May 8: A newly married couple accidentally fell into the Hemavathi river and drowned while clicking selfies near Henneli village in the district, police said on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Kritika (23) of the same village and Artheesh (27) of Belur taluk in the district.

They got married on March 20. Both were working in Bengaluru and were in the village due to the lockdown.
