Human Trafficking case: Refugees sent back

Mangalore, September 9: Arrangements to send back the refugees who were rescued by Mangalore police on Saturday from a major human trafficking net, were made by the city police on Sunday.

The refugees, most of them hailing from Sri Lanka, besides Indian nationals from Tamil Nadu, left for Chennai today in two buses arranged by the police, after a team of policemen from Tamil Nadu rendered additional help in enquiring more about the identities of the refugees.

“Three policemen from Tamil Nadu led by Inspector Srinivas helped us derive more information from the refugees. From further enquiry, it has been found that of the 84 people rescued, 48 are registered Sri Lankan refugees (42 male, 5 females, and 1 male child), 8 are unregistered Sri Lankan refugees (all males), 21 Indian nationals from Tamil Nadu (7 males, 10 females, 1 male child and 3 female children) and the rest 7 from Karnataka and Kerala. Two buses have been arranged to take the Tamil nationals and Sri Lankan refugees to Chennai, Pratap Reddy, IGP, Western Range, said.

Among the 13 accused, 9 are Sri Lankan refugees, 3 are from Tamil Nadu and 1 hails from Kerala, he said. Police custody for the accused has been sought from the district magistrate, he added.

2nd flight chattered by KSCC brings 171 stranded Kannadigas from UAE to Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 27: The second flight chartered by the Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in UAE landed at Mangalore International Airport at 6 p.m. today.

The Air Arabia flight with 171 passengers took off from Sharjah international airport around 1 am (UAE Time). The flight had 18 pregnant women, 9 children, 3 infants, 8 senior citizens, 20 people with medical emergencies besides those have lost jobs, stranded visit visa holders and those who had reported deaths in their families.

KSCC had set up help desk to finalize list of passengers and guide them throughout the process. All the legal procedures were carried out smoothly.

KSCC president Mohammed Ismail accorded a warm welcome to all passengers. Rapid tests for Covid-19 were conducted before departure. Mandatory quarantine for all the passengers was arranged in three hotels in Mangaluru for a period of seven days.

KSCC office bearers Ismail, Javed, Safwan and volunteers were present at the airport during the time of departure. KSCC has expressed its gratitude to Consulate General, DC of DK district, Umar U H and Ataullah Jokkate for their support.

Govind Karjol ready to quit DyCM post for smooth cabinet expansion

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 28: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Public Works Govind Karjol on Tuesday said that he is ready to quit if the post asks him to do so to pave way for smooth expansion of the Cabinet.

Responding to a question from media persons on the issue here, he said he was ready to quit his post any time.

“If the party asks me to resign now, I will send back my official car and return by bus”, he added.

Further, he opined that there should not be efforts to seek a berth in the Cabinet based on caste.

“Putting pressure on the party based on caste is not right. The party will consider those who worked for the party and also take district-wise representation into account while filling up the vacancies”, he added.

Covid-19: Restrictions made compulsory for observing Ramdan

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Amir-e-Shariat Maulana Sagir Ahmad Khan Rashadi, Maulanaon Wednesday urged people to compulsorily follow the lockdown restrictions during the month of Ramdan.

Ramazan fastings should not be missed without valid reasons. As already mentioned, five namaz of the day should be performed at home and do not go to Mosques.

Taraweeh Namaz should be performed at home along with family members, he said at a meeting of Imarat-e-Sharia leaders held at Darul Uloom Sabilurrashad (Arabic College) in the city.
