Mangalore, September 9: Sunday saw a rise in the sales of meat in the city. There was a huge demand in the city among people of Mangalore with regard to mutton. Meat of around 300 lambs was sold on Sunday, said Ali Hasan, chairman of Meat Traders Association.
Along with being a Sunday, it was the day after Krishna Janmashtami and Feast of Nativity of Mary celebrated by Hindu and Christian communities respectively.
Since majority of the feast-celebrators had gone vegetarian on Saturday, they opted for consuming meat the next day. All these factors combined increased the sales of lamb meat in the market. Even the chicken sold was higher than usual, said Ali Hasan.
