Sangh Parivar atrocities against minorities condemned

Sullia, September 12: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Campus Front of India (CFI) jointly organised a silent march in Sullia on Tuesday, protesting against the atrocities committed on minorities by the Sangh Parivar.

 

The campaigners took out a silent march from Shastri Circle and converged near the private bus stand, where speakers addressed the protesters.

 

SDPI Dakshina Kannada district General Secretary Akbar Ali accused the government of supporting the offences made by the ABVP activists by withdrawing the cases against them.

 

SDPI chief of Sullia taluk Shafi Bellary said that the Sangh Parivar and BJP which was full of corruption and irregularities, was now spreading its net to colleges and campuses through its youth-wing ABVP and with the help of the police.

 

Dalit Sangharsha Samiti district convener Koosappa said that the Dalit MLA of Sullia S Angara had been suffering humiliation from the hands of BJP from the past 20 years, and yet had set out to bring ruin to the Dalits on their orders. He questioned the silence of Sangh Parivar's leaders on the issue.

 

CFI State President Thufail raised questions on the ABVP as to why there had been no protests when ministers had been red-handed watching pornographic film in the assembly. He said that the SDPI had the power to put an end to their 'goondaism' in educational institutions.

Mangaluru, Jan 7: Kasturba Medical College Mangaluru, a constituent unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), in association with Pai Family Endowment (in memory of Shri Suhas Gopal Pai) as its social initiative opens a newborn hearing assessment centre at Govt Lady Goshen Hospital on Tuesday.

Dr M Venkatraya Prabhu, Dean of KMC Mangaluru addressing the media persons said that the project is made possible by the generous philanthropic contribution of Mrs Anuradha (Shanthi)Gopal Pai and will be inaugurated by her in Presence of Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE.

Dr Deepak Madi, Deputy Medical Superintendent KMC Hospital Attavar explained that the facility will be managed by the departments from Audiology, ENT and Paediatrics of Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru. The Centre aims to screen all the babies born in the hospital for hearing loss.

This is the maiden initiative of the MAHE-Pai Family endowment which has been set up to find solutions for the numerous challenges faced by the hearing handicapped in & around Dakshina Kannada district.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: In the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown imposed till July 23, streets in the Dakshina Kannada district here bore a deserted look today (Sunday) morning.

The state government had allowed relaxation hours between 8 am to 11 am in the week-long total shutdown. However today there was no relaxation. 

All shops including those selling essential commodities were also seen closed in the district today. Besides, barricades were also seen stationed at different junctures on the road.

As per Karnataka's COVID-19 information portal, a total of 59,652 coronavirus cases have been reported in the state, including 36,631 active cases and 21,775 recoveries. So far, 1,240 people have died due to the infection in the state. 

Dakshina Kannada so far recorded 3,311 covid-19 positive cases and 75 deaths.

Bengaluru,  Aug 4: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted himself to a hospital.

"I have been tested positive for COVID-19 and also been admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors as a precaution. I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms and to quarantine themselves," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Earlier on Sunday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had said that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

4,752 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Monday, taking total cases to 1,39,571 including 62,500 discharges and 2,594 deaths, the State Health Department informed.
