Committee to felicitate Capt. Ganesh Karnik on Sunday

Mangalore, September 13: Kalopasaka Capt Ganesh Karnik Felicitation Committee will felicitate MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik at a programme on Sunday, September 16 at Town Hall, Mangalore, said secretary of the Committee P Nityananda Rao.

 

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the committee decided to felicitate him to express gratitude to his keen interest in all forms of art and encouragement towards it.

 

He said in the day-long programme artists from various fields will exhibit different types of art forms.

 

Secretary of the committee Chandrashekar K Shetty said that the lamp-lighting ceremony will begin at 8.55 am, following which around 20 artists from the district will lend their voices for classical, Yakshagana, Carnatic, folk, film and Hindustani music and others. On the occasion, artist Syed Asif Ali will render an oil portrait of Capt Ganesh Karnik, he said.

 

At 10.30 am, the felicitation meeting will be held in the presence of Chancellor of Nitte University Dr N Vinay Hegde, Chairman of Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai) M Narendra, Executive Director of Karnataka Bank (Mangalore) P Jayarama Bhat, Chairman of Sharada Vidyalaya Mangalore Prof M B Puranik, Chairman of Alva's Educational Foundation Dr Mohan Alva and senior art critic A Eshwaraiah.

 

Chairman of the committee Kumble Sundar Rao said that the day-long cultural programme would include a Bharatnatyam performance by senior dance artists from Karavali region. This will be the first time in Mangalore that so many senior dancers would be performing together, he said.

 

Swarna Sundar and Vijaykumar Kodialbail were present at the press conference.

Bengaluru, May 25: With the reporting of 93 more fresh cases of COVID-19, the total number of pandemic cases were surged to 2182 in Karnataka on Monday.

According to official sources, highest number of new cases of COVID-19 pandemic, were reported from Udupi (32), Kalaburagi (16), Yadagiri (15), Bengaluru Urban (08), Dakshina Kannada (04) in the last 24-hours in the state.

The fresh cases were also reported form Mandya, Belagavi, Ramanagara, Vijayapura, Kolara, Ballari and Dharwada district.

Bengaluru, Jul 13: Karnataka Minister CT Ravi has tested positive for COVID-19. However, his wife and staff members have tested negative.

"Yesterday, I along with my wife Pallavi and my staff members underwent COVID-19 test. Fortunately, my wife Pallavi and all my staff members are tested negative. Third umpire's result for me has confirmed that I'm COVID Positive. However, I'm feeling absolutely fine," Ravi tweeted.

"For now, I'll continue to work from here and undergo treatment. Very soon, I'll get cured and come back to work with you all," he added.
So far, Karnataka has reported 36,216 COVID-19 cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Bengaluru, May 3: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa requested his Maharashtra counterpart Uddhav Thackeray to release six TMC water from his state's reservoirs to rivers in Karnataka to meet acute drinking water shortage in North Karnataka.

Yediyurappa pointed out that the North Karnataka districts, namely Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Yadagiri and Raichur are facing acute shortage of drinking water due to onset of summer during early days of March this year.

"I request you to kindly direct the concerned authorities to release 3 TMC of water from Warna/Koyna reservoirs to Krishna river and 3 TMC of water from Ujjaini reservoir to Bhima river on humanitarian grounds for drinking purpose," Yediyurappa said in his letter.

He reminded Thackeray that even in the past the Maharashtra government had released water from its reservoirs to meet the drinking water needs of both human beings and livestock in drought-affected areas of Karnataka.
