Mangalore, September 17: Kalopasaka Capt Ganesh Karnik Felicitation Committee felicitated MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik at a programme on Sunday, September 16 at Town Hall, Mangalore.

Dharmadikari Harikrishna Punaroor, Former President of Kannada Sahithya Parishat inaugurated the ceremony.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr Karnik said that it was due to the encouragement of Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) he could reach greater heights in his life. “My wife also encouraged and supported in every decisions,” he said.

He also called upon the youth join politics. “Parents should encourage their children to join politics, thus making a lot of development for the country,” he said.

The felicitation was organized to express gratitude to his keen interest in all forms of art and encouragement towards it.

In the day-long programme artists from various fields will exhibit different types of art forms. Around 20 artists from the district lent their voices for classical, Yakshagana, Carnatic, folk, film and Hindustani music and others. On the occasion, artist Syed Asif Ali rendered an oil portrait of Capt Ganesh Karnik.

Chairman of Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai) M Narendra, Executive Director of Karnataka Bank (Mangalore) P Jayarama Bhat, Chairman of Sharada Vidyalaya Mangalore Prof M B Puranik felicitated Mr Karnik.

Mangaluru, Jan 23: Bajpe Police on Thursday registered yet another case against the prime accused in Mangaluru International Airport case, Aditya Rao.

According to the police, a complaint was received from the officials of Indigo flight that they had to delay their flight scheduled to take off for Hyderabad at 1615 hrs after receiving a hoax call from Aditya, threatening of bomb.

They also asserted that the passengers were de-boarded from the flight and the luggages were brought back to security check again.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Karnataka Minister CT Ravi on Wednesday said that time is ripe to bring in Uniform Civil Code in the country as there was a demand for "equality".

"Everyone talks about equality. Those who desired inequality in the past are now seeking equality. The time is ripe to bring Uniform Civil Code," he said.

The Minister said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has been a part of the party's agenda since the time when BJP was formed in 1980.

"We spoke about article 370, we have done it, on Ayodhya issue, the Supreme Court has given its verdict. As the time comes we will do it," he said.

Bengaluru, Mar 1: A Bengaluru Court has extended the judicial custody of Amulya Leona, who raised 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogan at an anti-CAA rally in Bengaluru's Freedom Park on Feb 20, till March 5.

Amulya was sent to 14-day judicial custody for her actions in the presence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

A sedition case has been registered against Amulya.

According to the police, a suo moto case under Section 124A (sedition), 153A and B (promoting enmity between different groups and imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) have been registered against the girl.
