Govt. mulls academy for photographers

Mangalore, September 17: The Karnataka government is considering to establish Photographers' Academy to protect the interests of photographers, said Minister for Murzai and Ports Kota Srinivas Poojary.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 22nd Annual General Meeting of South Kanara Photographers Association (SKPA) on Sunday at JNC Auditorium at Panambur.

Stating that the proposal was still in the initial stage, he said that he would hold discussion with State Photographers Association and discuss it further with the government and the Chief Minister.

Having been a photographer himself, he said that he had similar views about the requirements of photographers association. The photographers of this generation should make full use of the new technical instruments available and bring newness in photography, he opined.

Minister Srinivas Poojary was felicitated on the occasion. President of Karnataka Photographers Association (KPA) B S Shashidhar and SKPA President K Vasudeva Rao handed over a petition. Award-winning photographers were also felicitated.

SKPA Advisor Vittal Chowta, Treasurer Jagannath Shetty, former president Karunakar Kanangi, Ashok Kumar Shetty, Shivaram Kadaba, Gopal Sullia, Sudarshan Shetty Kundapur, S C Shekhar Brahmavar, Shridhar Shettighar Udupi, Padmaprasad Jain Karkala and Praveen Kaup were present on the occasion.

SKPA President Vasudeva Rao welcomed the gathering, while H K Nayanad and Janardhan Kodavoor compered the programme.

Bengalur, May 15: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Friday said that stern action will be taken against the persons responsible for organising the village temple fair in Ramanagara district.

"Stern action will be taken against the person responsible for organising the festival. This should not have happened," the Deputy CM said.

Flouting all social distancing norms, people had gathered in large numbers for a temple fair in Kolagondanahalli village of Ramanagara. People were even not wearing masks.

They had taken permission for gathering from Panchayat Development Officer NC Kalmatt.

Kalmatt has been suspended by Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner following a report by the Tehsildar.

Meanwhile, 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,032 on Friday, according to the state Health Department.

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Jul 8: Kannada television actor Susheel Gowda has reportedly committed suicide in his home town Mandya.

 According to reports, the actor killed himself yesterday. The exact reason for suicide hasn't been revealed yet. 

The news has come as a shock to many celebrities. The actor was over 30 years of age and had acted in TV shows. 

He played a role in serial Anthapura and was looking forward to establishing himself in the Kannada Film Industry. Other than an actor, he was also a fitness trainer. 

Shocked by the news of Susheel Gowda's death, Duniya Vijay wrote on Facebook (translated), "When I first saw him I thought he is a hero material. Even before the movie got released he has left us too soon. Whatever may be the problem suicide is not the answer. I think the series of deaths will not end this year. It is not only because of Coronavirus people fear, people are losing faith because they don’t have job which can give them the money to lead a life. It is high time to stay stronger to overcome the crisis."

Susheel Gowda has played the role of a cop in the upcoming film Salaga. It stars Duniya Vijay in the leading role.

Susheel's co-star Amita Ranganath said, "I got the news from my friend. I still can’t believe that he is no more. He was such a sweet and soft hearted person who never loses his cool. It’s been very sad to know that he has left us so early. He had the talent to achieve more in the entertainment industry.” 

Director of the serial Anthpura, Aravind Koushik on his face book page posted "Sad news I heard . Susheel Gowda who played the lead in the tv serial Antahpura that I directed is no more . Rest in Peace."

She also shared a picture with Susheel on her Instagram story and expressed her grief.
