Mangalore, September 17: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal has exhorted the Maoists to make use of the ceasefire called by the state Government.

“It is a good opportunity for Naxals to surrender themselves”, he said responding to queries of media persons at a press meet here on Monday.

“The police forces have seen success in Naxal affected areas of our district. The ceasefire called by the government and the time allotted to them to surrender is an opportunity for them which they should encash. They will be given rehabilitation as per the government rules”, he said, adding that there are instances of naxals benefiting from the rehab programmes of the government leading happy lives with good jobs.

The state government has also sanctioned Rs. 5 crore for developmental works in naxal affected areas in Belthangady Taluk. The police has been working in tandem with revenue department and other departments in identifying the beneficiaries and executing the developmental works, Mr. Goyal said.

Works such as construction of roads and bridges, drainage facilities, setting up of Anganavadi centres etc have been identified in naxal affected villages. Employment in the form of teachers, JCB and heavy vehicle training and other self-employment schemes are also being placed, he said.

Bengaluru, May 22: Amid the fourth phase of nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, inter-state travel from Karnataka is now permitted with the consent of the receiving state, informed Praveen Sood, Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General (IG).

"Inter-state pass is not required to go out of Karnataka as long as you have the consent of the receiving state," he said.

The order follows MHA's recent announcement of relaxed guidelines amid the nationwide lockdown.

"Due to lockdown, migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons are stranded at different places. They would be allowed to move as under," read the new guidelines while asking states to designate nodal authorities to facilitate the interstate movement.

The Centre has extended the lockdown till May 31 across the country.
