Funds released for boat house at Malpe'

Udupi, September 18: State Government has already sent a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Coastal Beach Circuit, a beach development programme as part of the tourism development, to the centre and the latter is likely to sanction Rs 50 crore within a month, said State Tourism Minister Anand Singh.

He was speaking to press persons after inspecting the construction of a jetty to enable the tourists visiting St Mary's Island at Malpe. He said that two jetties, boat house one each at Malpe and St Mary's Island would be constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore each.

Minister, in the presence of Paryaya Sode Mutt pontiff Vishwavallabha Theertha, laid foundation stone to a 'Yathri Niva'', to be built in the premises of Srikrishna Temple, Udupi.

Anand Singh, along with Principal Secretary of Department of Tourism Latha Krishna Rao, its Sathyavathi G, Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat visited the Heritage Village, developed by Hastha Shilpa Heritage Trust, at Manipal. They discussed the possibilities of providing government help to the trust in opening the Heritage Village to the public. Latha Krishna said, “Government is ready to provide basic infrastructural facilities to the trust, provided the trust shall include the Deputy Commissioner in the Trust, as one of the Trustees”.

Minister announced to get 40 cents of land on the Manipal-Alevoor road to provide for an entry and parking facility to the tourists visiting the heritage village.


Speaking at the review meeting Minister said that Rs 55 lakhs had already been released to develop Kaup Light House area, which includes construction of a bridge, vehicle parking facilities and laying interlock surrounding the light house area.

Kasaragod, June 14: Two teenagers lost their lives and two others sustained injuries after the car in which they were travelling veered off the road and turned turtle at Kumbla in Kasaragod district today. 

The deceased have been identified as Hussin (17), son of Abusalih-Hasina couple from Kumbala Badria Nagar and Hasan Midlaj (18) hailing from Talangara. 

The condition of Shahal, a resident of Moghal, is said to be critical. He was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. 

The accident occurred near Little Lilli English Medium School. High speed and rash driving are said to be reason for the crash. 

The Maruti Zen car veered off the road and rammed into a tree before turning turtle. There were four people on board the car. One died on the spot and the other at the hospital.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, on Wednesday, interacted with families of Covid-19 warriors of the Police Department through a special video conference to infuse confidence in them.

He spoke to the family members of the police personnel who, along with ASHA workers, are monitoring the home quarantined people and even assist them in supplying essentials and medicines.

Most of the family member of the police personnel were of North Karnataka origin and the Commissioner asked them to stay safe by staying at home and explained to them the good work done by their family members in the Police Department.

New Delhi, Jul 28: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Sadananda Gowda on Monday said that India has proved that it is the "pharmacy of the world" in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a press conference here, Gowda said, "India is often referred to as 'the pharmacy of the world' and this has been proved true especially in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic when India continued to export critical life-saving medicines to the countries."

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandviya said that three bulk drug parks will be developed in the country in partnership with the states at Rs 3,000 crores.

"Three bulk drug parks will be developed in the country in partnership with the states at Rs 3,000 crores. Four medical device parks will also be developed with a government grant of Rs 100 crores for one park," Mandaviya said.
