Mangalore, September 19: D V Sadananda Gowda, former Chief Minister, has urged 'immediate intervention' of senior BJP leaders in the High Command with regard to the appointment of the State BJP President, stating that statements from other party leaders in the state are fuelling an atmosphere of 'confusion'.

Addressing media persons at his residence in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr. Gowda took a dig at his predecessor and fellow partyman B S Yeddyurappa for his statement that K S Eshwarappa must resign from the Deputy Chief Minister's post and continue being the State BJP President. “Some of our party leaders are giving statements in public about the State BJP President's post. All this is doing is fueling confusion among our party activists and also the people. I urge our national leadership to intervene immediately and put an end to the chaos by appointing the State party President. The more it is postponed, the more confusion and friction will it create”, he said.

Mr. Gowda said party leaders like Mr. Yeddyurappa must understand their responsibilities and not discuss such issues in public. “No one is above the party. We have all risen as leaders because of the party. The national leadership is there to take a call. Even if there are things to be discussed or suggested, they are to be done amongst ourselves and not to be spoken out in the public. On 28 and 29, there is a national party meet and I hope that our senior leaders will take a call on this before that”, he said.

On tomorrow's nationwide bundh call given by NDA, Mr. Gowda said that UPA government's policies are the reason for price rise. “It is something that even UPA allies and economic experts are agreeing with. The stand taken by Mayavati should be welcomed. But DMK is displaying double standards. It is time UPA allies realized their folly. The Lok Sabha must be dissolved and the Congress must make preparations to face elections”, he said.

When asked about the Assembly elections which are not far away, Mr. Gowda said that people are still with the BJP. “Yes we may have lost the Udupi-Chikmagalur elections but circumstances at that time were not in our favour owing to the blue film and Malpe rave party issues. But we all saw later that in the MLC elections in Graduates and Teachers' constituencies, we fared better than before and those voters are not illiterate, uneducated voters”, he said.

However, Mr. Gowda admitted that there are differences among BJP partymen in the state. “Yes there are differences and hence I am urging the national leadership to intervene, or else BJP might go the Congress way in Karnataka owing to its divisions”, the former Chief Minister warned.

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Karnataka Health Department on Thursday permitted District Health Departments to appoint doctors with MBBS, on a contractual basis with permission of concerned District Health Officers and Commissioners, a statement said.

The state government has also hiked the salary of contractual doctors from Rs 45000 to Rs 60000 per month.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu urged contract doctors to continue offering their services amid their demand for regularisation of services.

"I request the contract doctors with folded hands to continue offering their services. With regard to their two demands, one of salary hike and the other being permanency, I assure all of them that I stand with them and their requests will definitely be fulfilled," said Mr Sriramulu.

The Chief Minister had also discussed about the two issues yesterday and agreed to facilitate the pay hike, he added.

Bengaluru, Jul 3: The Karnataka government is allowing select asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic Covid-19 patients to recuperate at home as part of home isolation guidelines, an official said on Friday.

"Only those who are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic shall be allowed to be in isolation at home," said a health official, highlighting that such patients should be properly oriented on home isolation.

However, before home isolation, a health team will visit the patient's house and assess its suitability for executing home isolation.

Similarly, the patient should be provided with a tele-consultation link for initial triage, daily follow up and during the entire home isolation time.

For a daily update, the patient isolated at home should give a report on his health status to the physician or health authorities.

"The home isolation shall be with the knowledge of the family members, neighbours, treating physician and local health authorities," said the official.

Though home isolation is allowed, it is not a blanket permission for all asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic cases in Karnataka to avail.

"Such cases should have the requisite facility at their residence for self-isolation and also for quarantining the family contacts. A care giver should be available to provide care on 24x7 basis," said the official.

Likewise, the caregiver should also have a regular communication link between him and the hospital during the home isolation.

No patient above 50 years will be allowed to avail home isolation.

"If the patient has the following comorbidities: hypertension, diabetes, obesity, thyroid disease, they shall be well managed and under good clinical control as assessed by medical officer," he said.

However, patients with comorbidities such as kidney diseases, dialysis, heart diseases, stroke, tuberculosis, cancer and HIV cannot avail home isolation.

Likewise, immunity compromised patients and those on steroids also cannot be on home isolation.

Though pregnant women are not allowed to avail this facility, lactating women are allowed after due instruction and assessment.

The Health Department has also issued several other guidelines and protocols for a patient choosing home isolation.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A woman suffered critical injuries after a speeding car knocked down her scooter and then ran over her at Kadri Kambla Junction in the city today.

The woman identified as Vanishri Bhat (22) a resident of Kedila from Puttur.

A CCTV footage of the accident, which went viral on social media, shows the car hitting the scooter, pushing the woman on road for a couple of meters before climbing over her.

The car stopped when she was under it. A few people including a policeman lifted the car from the front and rescued the woman.

She was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader’s car which was passing through that way.

She has suffered critical injuries on her head, ribs, hands and legs, sources said. She is reportedly responding to treatment.

It may be recalled that in December last year a lorry-auto accident at the same spot claimed life of a 56-year-old teacher while the auto driver miraculously survived. Following the accident, speed breakers were installed at the junction.
