Teenager drowns while learning swimming; another rescued

Mangalore, September 21: A teenager drowned while learning swimming along with his four other at the confluence of Kolachikambala Shambhavi and Nandini Rivers near a mouth of estuary on Thursday evening near Mulky.

 

The victim has been identified as Inzamam (19), son of Ashraf and Nafeesa couple from Udupi. He was a mobile technician in Udupi.

 

He had been to learn swimming along with his friends from Karnad identified as Wasim(20), Razik (20), Imran (20), Salih (20).

 

Two among them were washed away immediately after stepping into water. However local fishermen succeeded in rescuing Salih.

 

A case has been registered at Mulky police station.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The Karnataka government has intensified screening all international passengers at airports by classifying them into three risk categories.

Passengers, who are symptomatic on arrival fall under risk category 1, those aged above 60 and have Symptoms fall under category 2. Those who fall in both these categories are being quarantined at designated facilities for 14 days from arrival.

Asymptomatic passengers arriving from any of the COVID-19 affected countries will fall under category 3 and will be advised to be under strict home quarantine for 14 days, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said here on Sunday.

Bengaluru, Feb 3: The Karnataka government on Monday ordered high alert across border districts after neighbouring Kerala reported the second confirmed case of dreaded n-CoV Coronavirus. District administrations in Kodagu, Mangaluru, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru that share boundary with Kerala have been put on high alert over the movement of people with suspected cases.

In a statement released on Monday, the Health and Family welfare department said that these districts have been directed to immediately report to the State Surveillance Unit (SSU) if they come across any suspected cases of people infected with Coronavirus.

Currently, about 51 people who returned from Coronavirus-affected regions have been identified and 46 are under home isolation across Karnataka. So far, 44 samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for analysis and out of which 29 samples have revealed negative results. Yet, the state government has put in all possible measures to check the spread of the virus in any part of the state.

Mangaluru, July 28: A screenshot of a death threat message against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, is now going viral on social media.

The threat comes in the wake of the Deputy Commissioner’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha. 

It is learnt that a discussion was held about DC’s warning in a pro-Hindutva WhatsApp group. The death threat was issued in the same group in Tulu language. 

A police officer said that if the deputy commissioner doesn’t lodge a complaint, the police will file a suo motu case in this regard.
