BS_Yeddyurappa_hints_at_leaving_BJPBangalore, September 21: Upset at being neglected by the top brass after his ouster as Chief Minister, Karnataka BJP strongman BS Yeddyurappa on Friday dropped clear hints of leaving the party, saying he was facing a 'suffocating environment' in it.

"I am facing a suffocating environment in the party. I am waiting for an opportune time to decide my future. I will take a decision on completing my ongoing second leg of tour in parts of the state by December end," he told reporters here.

Yeddyurappa, who is unlikely to attend the BJP National Executive at Haryana from December 27, said he would take a decision on his future plans in December.

He defended the delay in announcing a decision on his political future, saying any decision at this stage would rock the government headed by Jagadish Shettar, whom he installed as Chief Minister.

Yeddyurappa said he does not aspire for any position in the party or that of state unit president. "I have asked my supporters not to lobby with the high command for any position for me. I will not accept the state unit party post, even if the party offers it to me," he said.

"If at all I have to become Chief Minister again, I will become with the blessings of the people," Yeddyurappa, who was forced to quit in July last year after a Lokayukta report on illegal mining indicted him, said.

"In fact after I quit,I have been working as a ruling party member and also as opposition party member. It is my hard stand that ensured waiver of Rs3200 crore loans to farmers. It is on my call the KSRTC strike ended and the government found a solution to the garbage problem in the city," Yeddyurappa, who announced plans to tour 50 constituencies in the coming days, said.

He reminded party bosses of his efforts in the last 40 years to build BJP in the state from a strength of two MLAs to 121 and said he had played a pivotal role in installing the first-ever saffron party government in the South.

He took a jibe at Deputy Chief Minister K S Eswarappa, who is also continuing as state unit party chief, saying he has the onus to bring back the party to power. "He should quit the ministry and devote his energy to strengthening the party".

On the Cauvery issue, he slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for directing Karnataka at the Cauvery River Water Authority meet in Delhi to release 9,000 cusecs to Tamil Nadu.

He alleged that Singh had done so to please Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to save his 'minority government' by secuing AIADMK's support.

Mangaluru: The police team investigating the case of bomb planting at the international airport here on January 20, took suspect Aditya Rao to several places in the city where he had frequented in the past few months, police said on Wednesday.

Police had earlier recovered a box from his bank locker at Udupi that contained a white powder which he claimed was cyanide. The substance has been sent to the Forensic Science laboratory for confirmation.

On further interrogation, Rao told police that he had a locker in a bank in Mangaluru also, where he was taken. Only some papers were seen in the locker, police said. He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel in Balmatta here and to a hardware workshop from where he had purchased some spare parts, they said.

A 'live' explosive device was found in an unattended bag near a ticket counter of the departure gate of the airport here on January 20, triggering a scare before it was defused at a nearby open ground.

Police had released a picture of a man captured on CCTV camera as the suspect who placed the bomb and Rao later surrendered. Meanwhile, sources said the airport authorities got an anonymous call on Monday evening that a bomb had been planted in the airport. After thorough search, it was found to be a hoax. City police commissioner P S Harsha has warned of stringent action against those who make such calls.

Bengaluru, Feb 5: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said that he has demanded a report on the Shaheen School incident after reports emerged that children were allegedly interrogated by the police for hours at a stretch, while not allowing parents to be present.

Terming the incident a very sensitive matter as it involves children, Basavaraj Bommai said, "I have asked for a report on the Shaheen School incident. As it is a very sensitive and serious issue, I have asked the police to handle it carefully."

"I have asked the police to take the help of the women and child protection committee at the district level. However, I have been told that the police had visited the area where the play was done and no interrogation of children in isolation took place. Nevertheless, I have asked the police to handle the issue with care and do everything within the law," Basavaraj added.

The matter pertains to a programme organised as a part of the Republic day celebrations where the children in Shaheen School in Bidar had staged a play against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had protested alleging that the play at Shaheen School in Bidar was derogatory. In the play, the participants were shown staging an anti-CAA sequence where there were dialogues encouraging non-cooperation with anyone asking for documents. A case was registered against the school management.

Meanwhile, CEO of Shaheen Education Institute, Bidar, Tauseef Madikeri had said, "Police have invoked Sections 124A, 505 and 504 of the IPC against the institution, over a play staged against CAA and NRC. It is beyond anyone's imagination. Deputy SP visited the classroom and interrogated the students."

Karnataka police had sealed the offices of the school after its students participated in the play. Meanwhile, the police had questioned students of Shaheen School after a play against the CAA and NRC was staged during the Republic Day celebrations.

The child rights groups, teachers and educationists had issued a statement condemning the police interrogation in the incident.
