'Rs 5k crore coastal tourism plan ready'

Moily_ReadyUdupi, September 24: Union minister for Corporate Affairs and Power M Veerappa Moily said on Sunday that the Union government plans to infuse Rs 5,000 crore along Indian's coast line as part of a mega tourism project.

He said the Union government will initially release Rs 50 crore to each state.

Moily said the project would be launched in the current fiscal. He was speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Congress party's district workers.

He said directions had been issued to state governments to come up with blue prints for investments, and also to look into issues pertaining to the coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) rules.

Karnataka's government was asked to send a report on possibilities of tourism ventures in between Karwar and Ullal. Moily has also asked Udupi district administration to send proposals of tourism projects in the region.

The minister said talks were held with officials of the National Highway Authority of India over the impending widening of road from Kundapura to Karwar.


The officials were asked to start work in two months. The stretch will be widened to a six-lane road. The tender process for this was over, he said.

Bengaluru, Jul 26: A total of 5,199 new COVID-19 cases and 82 deaths were reported from Karnataka on Sunday, the state's health department said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state stands at 96,141, including 58,417 active cases and 35,838 recoveries.
So far, 1,878 deaths have been reported from Karnataka.

Meanwhile, India reported a spike of 48,661 cases and 705 deaths in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

A total of 9,46,777 tests have been done so far and the number of tests per million in the national capital stands at 49,830.

The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 13,85,522, including 4,67,882 active cases, 8,85,577 cured/discharged/migrated, and 32,063 deaths, it added.

Bengaluru, May 1: Karnataka has reported 11 new cases of coronavirus, taking the State's count to 576, informed the Health Department on Friday.

Out of the total COVID-19 cases found in the State, 235 people have been discharged and 22 people have died.

"11 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from April 30, 5 pm till noon today, taking the total number of cases to 576, which includes 22 deaths and 235 discharges," said the State government COVID-19 bulletin.

Bengaluru, Apr 21: The group who had attacked police and healthcare workers at the minority-dominated Padarayanapura in the city on Sunday night had raised slogans ''kill police'' when the team went to quarantine some people, the police alleged in an FIR.

Around 100 to 120 people rushed out onto the road targeting the police and health workers who wanted to pick up primary and secondary contacts of coronavirus patients.

Cases have been registered against the miscreants based on the complaint of police officers.

In one of the FIRs, police sub-inspector Raman Gowda complained that when he went to quarantine 43 people with the healthcare officers, around 120 people rushed out and attacked them.

"The group of people holding sticks and stones rushed from Arafat Nagar," Mr Gowda said.

When he was trying to stop them from destroying a CCTV camera, the mob attacked him shouting slogans ''Kill the police. Don't spare them," he alleged in the FIR.

"They wanted to kill us with stones and sticks and some of our staff sustained injuries," the officer said.

According to police, 59 people have been arrested including A woman who had allegedly masterminded the attack.
