Airbus 310 to make maiden landing at Mangalore Airport for Hajj pilgrims

Mangalore, September 26: In a big relief for the Hajj pilgrims from this region, widebody jet airliner 'Airbus A-310' will be making a maiden landing at Mangalore Airport on September 28 to take them to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Airport authorities said that special airbus has been introduced to ensure smooth travel of Hajj pilgrims, who can now bring their belongings in the same flights after the sacred journey.

Mangalore Airport Director M R Vasudeva Rao confirmed that the first batch of Hajj pilgrims will board the 1.4 lakh kg aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 220 passengers on Friday. The flight will take off at 11: 50 am.

Around 1,200 pilgrims will be boarding flights from Mangalore Airport this year in five batches on five consecutive days till October 2.

Earlier, pilgrims from this region had to depend on separate cargo planes to send home 'zam zam' water cans after performing the Hajj as they used to travel in lesser capacity flights.

“The delay in the arrival of their luggage was one of the major concerns of Hajj pilgrims from Mangalore in past years. However this time they can bring their belongings along with them in the same flight after performing Hajj”, said Mr Rao.

Mangaluru, Mar 7: After coronavirus cases were confirmed in different parts of the country, there has been a sudden jump in demand for mask and safety gears like gloves and sanitizers in Mangaluru and Udupi.

With the increase in demand, medical shop owners said that they were finding it difficult to meet the demand.

In fact, there is a demand for bulk supply of masks and gloves. There was demand for masks when Covid-19 was confirmed in China two months ago. Bulk quantities of masks were purchased in order to supply them to Indian employees working in China. A few private firms had purchased masks from Mangaluru in the month of December.

Udupi, Mar 6: District Health Officer Sudheer Chandra said that health department had compiled a list of foreigners visiting the Temple town Udupi and ensure that they are not infected with Coronavirus.

Addressing media persons at District Government Hospital in Ajjarkad on Friday, he said the Isolation Unit set up with five beds to treat the new Coronavirus infection includes two beds with Ventilator facility. Isolation wards with three beds were set up in Kundapur and Karkala taluks to treat the affected.

In order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, Committees were formed at District and Taluk level, he added.

Udupi, May 18: As many as eight fresh coronavirus positive cases have been reported in coastal districts of Udupi and Uttara Kannada. 

No fresh positive case was reported in Dakshina Kannada since yesterday.

According to Health and Family Welfare Department, two men aged 38 and 24 years, an 8-year-old boy and a 24-year-old woman tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today. 

All of them were under quarantine after returning from Maharashtra recently. They were shifted to covid-19 hospital for treatment. With this the number of covid-19 positive cases in Udupi district mounted to 15.

Meanwhile, Uttara Kannada district also received a jolt with four more cases. Yesterday it had reported eight cases.
