Udupi, September 26: Three young girls died after they fell into a water-filled stone quarry pit at Sooda village in Karkala taluk on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Huliyamma, Lalithamma and Bharathi, all aged around 18 to 20 years. All were the residents of Gadag district and were working for Gourish Crusher firm in the village.
The mishap occurred when they were taking a walk along the brink of the quarry, sources said.
However, a few residents of the village have expressed suspicion over the tragic incident. They demanded the police to investigate the matter thoroughly.
A case has been registered at Karkala Rural police station and investigations are on.
