Young girl dies after consuming rat poison

Bantwal, September 27: A four-year-old girl, who was in a critical state after consuming rat poison, breathed her last failing to respond to treatment early on Wednesday in Vittla Kasaba.

The child was Murshida Banu, daughter of Basheer from Okketturu in Bantwal.

Unaware of it, Murshida ate the rat poison that had been placed in her home on Tuesday evening. Being taken ill, she was taken to Vittla government hospital. However, as her condition worsened, she was rushed to a private hospital in Puttur and later admitted to Wenlock Hospital. But the treatment she received remained unsuccessful leading to her death.

A case has been registered at Vittla police station.

Mangaluru, Jan 25: Hotelier Samtappa reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Kadaba taluk in the district on police said on Saturday.

The deceased was running a hotel named Hotel Samtappa here.

Mangalore, Jan 15: In one of the biggest seizure of gold in the new decade, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths here have seized five kg of gold valued at Rs two Crore from the Air Cargo Complex at International Airport here recently.

Acting on a tip-off the officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Bangalore and Mangalore in a co-ordinated effort unraveled a unique modus of smuggling of gold through Air Cargo Complex, at old airport, Bajpe Mangalore two days back, According to release issued here on Tuesday evening.

The smuggled gold was concealed in five metal sprockets which were imported by M/s Swaroop Mineral Pvt Ltd of Udupi in the name of “mining conveyor drive chain”.

Madikeri, Apr 17: A person who had returned from Spain in March was subjected to home quarantine on Thursday in Sowarpet in Kodagu district.

The person had arrived at Bengaluru on March 16 and went to Balele. Yesterday, he came to his estate house in Kumburu village in Somwarpet.

Availing the information, Tahsildar Govindaraju, police officials and health department staff visited the spot and gathered the necessary information.
