Mangalore, September 30: Union Minister for Corporate Affairs and Power M. Veerappa Moily on Sunday reiterated that Centre would accord international status to Mangalore Airport before the year-end.
Responding to the queries of media persons at Mangalore Airport, the minister said that the grant of international tag for the Airport had been cleared at the official level long back.
“The international tag will be announced within two months. At the same time, the cargo complex will also be ready”, he said.
The airport was now “domestic customs airport” having international flight operations to West Asia. Moreover the Airport had already received approval for cargo clearance.
Yeddyurappa
Asked about the speculations over former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa joining Congress, Mr Moily, who is also a former chief minister of Karnataka, said that his party always wanted to form a transparent and corruption-free government in the State.
“We will welcome those who ready to provide us strength to form such a government”, he said.
However, he clarified that the Congress high command would take a final decision in this regard after properly analysing the situation.
Cauvery Crisis
Mr Moily advised Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments to sort out the row over the over distribution of Cauvery water through dialogue instead of prolonging the fight.
“It is time for the two neighbouring states to develop good relationship. We should not forget that even the apex court had directed the State government to comply with the order of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) to release 9,000 cusecs of water daily till October 15”, he said.
The minister later visited the Hajj camp at the old terminal building of Mangalore Airport.
