Hundreds 'Team up for Health Heart' in Manipal

Manipal, September 30: A huge gathering of general public, healthy patients, faculty, students officials of Manipal University and others including children evinced a great deal of enthusiasm as they took part in the World Heart Day Walkathon 2012 Manipal here on Sunday.

 

About a thousand keen participants assembled at the University building for the walk which had the theme “Team Up for Healthy Heart”

 

Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Manipal University flagged off the Walkathon. Mr Kota Srinivas Poojari Minister of Muzarai, Port and Inland Water Transport made a special visit and encouraged the pacipants of the World Heart Day Walkathon 2012 Manipal.

 

The participants walked about 6 kilometers.

 

Mr Katapady Shankar Poojari President  Udupi Zilla Panchayath and Mr S. A. Prabhakar Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Udupi Zilla Panchayath distributed the prizes to the winners in various categories. Dr G K Prabhu Registrar Manipal University, Dr Sripathi Rao Dean KMC Manipal, Dr M Dayananda Medical Superintendent Kasturba Hospital, Dr Padmaraj Hegde Deputy Medical Superintendent Kasturba Hospital were also present.

 

Manipal Hrudaya Spandana -  Heart Club launched

 

Mr Katapady Shankar Poojari President  Udupi Zilla Panchayath unveiled the plaque and Mr Pramod Madhwaraj Congress leader handed over the first membership card of Manipal Hrudaya Spandana. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Madhwaraj said that the People generally know about health and preventive measures but fight shy of putting it into practice.

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr Padmakumar, Head Dept of Cardiology, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal said the Manipal Hrudaya Spandana – Heart Club was formed with the objective of creating awareness among public about heart ailments. The membership offers free echo screening and one free Manipal Arogya Card. Enrolment to the Manipal Hruudaya Spandana will be open till October 31, 2012.

 

Dr Sripathi Rao Dean KMC Manipal released Patient Manual of Cardiac Rehabilitation written by Dr Arun Maiya, Associate Dean MCOAHS, Manipal.

Mangaluru, May 15: Mohammed Kana, son of late Ismail Kana and grandson of late Dr M S Bapanad Mulki passed away in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia due to heart attack on Thursday. He was 57.

Hailing from Mangaluru, Mohammed Kana was working in Saudi Arabia for past 30 years. He is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.

He was involved in various social and welfare activities in India and Saudi Arabia. His tragic demise has left huge vacuum in his family and community at large.

Chitradurga,  Aug 2: Said to be 110-years-old, a grand old woman Siddamma was discharged on Saturday from a COVID Hospital in Chitradurga after recovering from the novel coronavirus.

According to Dr Basavaraj, District Surgeon, Chitradurga, the woman had tested positive for the disease on July 27.

After her recovery, the frail woman dressed in a sari was seen being wheeled out from the hospital.

As many as 5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Saturday, taking the state's count of coronavirus cases to 1,29,287.

The active cases in the state now stand at 73,219 while 53,648 people have been discharged.

"5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,29,287 including 53,648 discharges and 2,412 deaths. 

The number of active cases stands at 73,219," said State Health Department.

So far, a total of 2,412 people have succumbed to the virus in the State.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the party's protest will continue until the Speaker will allow them to discuss BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yathnal's recent comments on freedom fighter HS Doreswamy.

"Our protest in the well of state assembly will continue until Speaker allows us to discuss about Basanagouda Patil Yatnal," Siddaramaiah said.

Congress MLAs staged a protest in the Karnataka Assembly and entered the well demanding BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yathnal's apology for his 'Pakistani agent' remark.

Earlier, Congress leaders on February 26 staged a protest on the same issue in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Vidhana Soudha.

Yathnal, on February 25, called Doreswamy a fake freedom fighter and a Pakistani agent while addressing the media. His comments triggered a controversy drawing sharp remarks from Congress and other parties.
