Shiv Khera opposes caste-centric reservation system in education

Mangalore, October 1: Opposing the reservation of seats under caste basis in educational institutions, management guru and motivational speaker Shiv Khera said he has filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court opposing the caste-centric reservation system.

 

"Today from class I a child will be promoted till tenth standard, even if he/she does not perform well in academics. What kind of students are we producing?" he questioned.

 

As many as 90 per cent of the graduates in India are not employable, he added while speaking to reporters here on Sunday.

 

He was speaking to the reporters, prior to giving a lecture to youths in a motivational programme, which was organized by Rotary Mangalore Hillside Charitable Trust. Criticizing the education system of India, he said majority of the teachers attached to government schools in the country have not even completed matriculate exams and 50 per cent of the schools do not have blackboards in classrooms.

 

Talking on illegal immigrants in the country he said, "There are many Bangladeshis residing illegally in Assam and West Bengal, if this continues these two states will become a part of Bangladesh and India may be having a Bangladeshi prime minster soon."

 

While talking about judicial system Khera said former union law minister Shanti Bhushan has himself said that of the every 16 justices, 8 justices are corrupt. "But why judiciary is not taking steps on these things," he added.

 

Many cases in the court get delayed for 20 to 30 years.

Bengaluru, Jun 30: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday demanded setting up of an all-party committee to monitor treatment-related issues in hospitals and said there are allegations of "corruption and nepotism" in the management of COVID-19 treatment.

Siddaramaiah said in a tweet that Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa should immediately form all-party monitoring committee.

"This is very much needed to increase public confidence in the backdrop of several complaints," he said.
"There are allegations of corruption and nepotism in the management of COVID-19 treatment. It is need of the hour to manage this unprecedented health crisis with public safety as the only objective," he said in another tweet.

He urged the Chief Minister to make the treatment protocol clear to the patients and instil hope. "Do not keep them in dark," he said.

The senior Congress leader also urged the Chief Minister to extend insurance and other benefits to private hospital doctors, nurses and support staff.
Karnataka has reported a total of 14,295 COVID-19 cases.

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced a special package for those involved in leather works, especially those who work on the roadside, informed the state's Deputy Chief Minister Govind M Karjol on Friday. 

The special package has been announced for cobblers and leather workers, who work on the roadside. 

The government has provided relief to 11,722 families at a rate of Rs 5,000 per family. These beneficiaries will be directly credited to their bank account through Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation.

This special package will help livelihoods for skilled workers, said the Deputy Chief Minister. He congratulated the Chief Minister on the declaration of this special package on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare.

Bengaluru, May 3: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa requested his Maharashtra counterpart Uddhav Thackeray to release six TMC water from his state's reservoirs to rivers in Karnataka to meet acute drinking water shortage in North Karnataka.

Yediyurappa pointed out that the North Karnataka districts, namely Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Yadagiri and Raichur are facing acute shortage of drinking water due to onset of summer during early days of March this year.

"I request you to kindly direct the concerned authorities to release 3 TMC of water from Warna/Koyna reservoirs to Krishna river and 3 TMC of water from Ujjaini reservoir to Bhima river on humanitarian grounds for drinking purpose," Yediyurappa said in his letter.

He reminded Thackeray that even in the past the Maharashtra government had released water from its reservoirs to meet the drinking water needs of both human beings and livestock in drought-affected areas of Karnataka.
