Final batch of pilgrims departs for Hajj from Mangalore

hajjMangalore, October 3: The fifth and final batch of pilgrims leaving for Hajj from city was given farewell at Mangalore Airport on Tuesday.

 

The pilgrims were formally seen off by Chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission Anwar Manippady and Chairman of B A Group of Institutions B A Ahmed Haji Mohiuddin.

 

The flight carrying 187 pilgrims including 162 from Dakshina Kannada district, 11 from Chikmagalur, five from Udupi, eight from Kodagu and one from Uttara Kannada district, departed to Madina from the Airport at 1.20 pm.

 

The departure of the flight had been slightly delayed owing to the heavy downpour that occurred earlier on Tuesday.

 

This year 1,065 pilgrims altogether have left for Hajj from Mangalore in five batches, comprising of  220 pilgrims each in the first and second batch, 219 each in third and fourth along with 187 in the final batch. Among them, 547 were male and 518 were female.

 

On the occasion, president of Mangalore Hajj camp management committee Y Mohammed Kunhi, State Hajj Committee officer Firoze Pasha, former chairman of Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid K Khalid Bava, Moideen Bava, Haneef Haji and Azeez Baikampady wished well to the departing pilgrims.

 

Mr Kunhi expressed his sincere gratitude to those who had rendered their service to Hajj pilgrims for the past week, including Haneef Haji, Moideen Bava, Azeez Baikampady, C Mohammed Haji, Fazal Haji Puttur, Rafeeq Haji Puttur, Zakir Hussain, Riyaz Haji, Hameed Kudroli, C M Mustafa, Abdur-rahman, Siraj Haji, C H Ullal, Haneef Bajpe, Sharief Haji Bajpe, I Moideenabba, Iqbal, M M Haji, Riyaz Bava, Ahmed Bava Bajal, A B Bajal, B S Basheer, Riyaz Beary, Rasheed Beary, Rafeeq Kadaba, Salim Bajpe as well as all the volunteers who participated in the Hajj camp. He also thanked the director of Mangalore Airport Authority, police department along with district administration.

 

Sirajuddin Saqafi of Bajpe Masjid performed Dua.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: No private hospital in Karnataka can turn away a patient without attending to him or her, irrespective of the Coronavirus status, an official has said.

"Private medical establishments shall not deny treatment and admission to any patient approaching the establishment irrespective of the fact that such patient may or may not be suffering from Covid-19," an official from the state Health and Family Welfare Department said on Wednesday.

Likewise, no private hospital can insist on a patient for a Covid-19 test report, said the official invoking the Disaster Management Act.

"The establishments also cannot insist for Covid test report," he said, directing all private hospitals to strictly abide by their responsibilities.

According to the department, it is the duty of every private hospital to provide first aid and take lifesaving steps when any patient approaches it.

"It is the duty of every private medical establishment to provide first aid and take lifesaving measures to stabilise the patient," he said.

The department also invoked statutes from Karnataka Medical Establishments Act 2017, under sections 11 and 11 (A) to drive home the message.

The directives assume significance at a time when several cases of private hospitals denying admissions and fleecing patients across the state have emerged.

"It has been noticed that some of the private hospitals are refusing treatment and admission to emergency patients, causing distress and this has resulted in complications, leading to death in certain cases," said the official.

The district authorities have been directed to take action on the erring hospitals as the department reiterated the responsibilities of private medical establishments.

Bengaluru, Jun 25: In the wake of unexpected surge in the coronavirus positive cases in Bengaluru, the special task force team assigned with the task of creating Covid Care Centres (CCC) has made elaborate arrangements the Haj Bhavan.

Civic authorities have already shifted around 50 Covid-19 patients to Haj Bhavan. 

BBMP Commissioner B H Anil Kumar said on Thursday that due to an increase in the number of cases and due to shortage of beds in hospitals, the Haj Bhavan has been converted into CCC.

Headed by Rajendar Kumar Kataria, Secretary, Horticulture and Sericulture department, the CCC task force has arranged 400 beds at Haj Bhavan. 

“The facility at Haj Bhavan has already been made operational. Doctors, nurses, paramedical and house-keeping staff from BBMP have been deployed as per SOPs. All essential equipment, medicines and other facilities have been made available in adequate numbers at the Haj Bhavan,” Kataria explained.

In the second phase, the task force team has identified hostel rooms of seven engineering colleges, which would fetch about 3,200 beds to house asymptomatic Covid-19 patients. 

If need arises, the task team in the third and final phase, will consider the facilities such as Palace Grounds, Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre, Indoor Stadiums at Kanteerava and Koramangala to be converted as CCC.

Mangaluru, Feb 11: BJ Puttaswamy, chairman of the State Planning Board stated that the detailed project report (DPR) to develop the Mangaluru-Karwar fisheries road at a cost of Rs 780 crores has been submitted to the state government and approval for it by the Coastal Development Authority (CDA) is pending.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the new developments done and in those in the future for the coastal districts.

He claimed that a feasibility report for the development of State Highway 67 has been submitted to the government.
