Govt. mulls full-fledged hospital for endosulfan victims

Uppinangady, October 7: The State government is planning to open a full-fledged hospital for the rehabilitation of the endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada district, said former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda.


Speaking at the inauguration of an another day care centre for the victims of endosulfan, at Koyla in Puttur taluk here on Saturday, he said “the gravity of the problem was brought to the notice of the government in the past. However, all the previous governments failed to respond to the problems faced by the Endosulfan victims. It was the BJP government which provided compensation for the victims.”


Endosulfan poisoning has affected 92 villages in Dakshina Kannada. There are nearly 6,000 endosulfan victims in the district. The re-survey on the endosulfan victims will be held between October 10 and 30. Once the survey is complete, a workshop for the doctors will be held in Mangalore.


MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the Central government does not have will power to ban Endosulfan completely.


Zilla Panchayat President Shailaja Bhat presided. SKDRDP Chief Executive Officer Dr L H Manjunath, Alankar Endo Virodhi Horata Samithi President Peer Mohammed, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr K S Vijayaprakash, Additional DC Dayanand and others were present.

Bengaluru, Jul 14: More than 80 Namma Metro workers have tested positive for COVID-19 in Bengaluru on Tuesday, said Yashwanth Chauhan BL, public relations officer of Namma Metro.

"All safety and treatment protocols would be followed at the camps," he added.

These workers were staying in a camp near Nagavara-Gottigere lane, reach-6 of phase two. More than 200 contract workers of Larsen and Toubro who had come from different states have been tested after a labourer complained of fever.

All coronavirus positive workers were shifted to a COVID care centre while others were kept in isolation as per the guidelines.

Bengaluru, Feb 23: As India gears up to welcome Donald Trump on his maiden visit to the country, a kite artist flew a special 15-feet long kite to welcome the US President.

VK Rao, an international kite artist from Karnataka, crafted the special kite, which included the photographs of both Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the messages 'Namaste Trump' and 'Welcome to India'.

Speaking to ANI, Rao said: "We have created and flown this special kite to welcome the US President. The kite is 15 feet long."

Earlier, an Amritsar-based kite maker in Punjab had designed special kites to welcome Trump.

"As Donald Trump will be visiting India, so I have made some kites to welcome him. There are kites with pictures of PM Narendra Modi and Donald Trump," said Jagmohan Kanojia, the kite maker.

Preparations are on across the country to welcome Trump, who is scheduled to visit India on February 24 and 25.

During the visit, Trump is scheduled to participate in a roadshow with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will address a gathering at the Motera stadium.

On Monday evening, the President and his family will be visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra.

Bengaluru, Jul 1: Faced with increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the State Capital, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice A S Okha has decided the Court to function online.

Registrar General Rajendra Badamikar, in the notice issued here on Wednesday, based on order of the Chief Justice, stated that the emergency cases will be conducted through video conference until the next order.

The order also specifies that only the principal seat (Bengaluru) will be conducting proceedings online. High Court benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi will continue to function as usual.
