Lift time limit for receiving applications from SC/STs'

Mangalore, October 8: Dalit leaders said that there should be no time limit for receiving applications from the beneficiaries of Ambedkar Corporation, to avail the beneficiary programmes. The time limit has resulted in denial of several benefits to the beneficiaries.

 

Speaking at the monthly SC/ST meeting here at the office of Superintendent of Police on Sunday, Dalit Sangharsha Samithi leader S P Anand said that the beneficiary programmes of the Ambedkar Corporation are not reaching the real beneficiaries. Loan facilities for self-employment is given only three months in a year. The loan facility should be given by the Corporation round the year, to bring poor Dalit families to the mainstream of the society.

 

The 22.75 per cent fund earmarked for the welfare of SC/ST beneficiaries in urban local bodies in the district are for other purposes. The Dalit colony should have minimun of 15 houses belonging to Dalits. However, many a time, a colony with one or two houses of Dalits are considered as Dalit colony and 22.75 per cent fund is earmarked for such colonies, he alleged.

 

He said out of 22.75 per cent funds, 60 per cent of the amount should be earmarked for the higher education of the students belonging to SC/ST. However, none of the local bodies are implementing it effectively.

 

Gopala Kadumata said the official from Ambedkar Corporation and Social welfare department should attend the SC/ST meeting, to which, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal promised to write to the officials concerned.

 

Vishwanath from Bantwal alleged that the Sub Inspectors hailing from Dalit community are not given the task of maintaining law and order in the district.

 

Refuting the charges, the SP said that additional responsibilities have been given to Dalit officers in four police stations in the district.  ASP M N Anucheth was present.

Bengaluru, Jun 15: As the central government has not allowed reopening of gyms in the country amid COVID-19 pandemic, many gymnasiums in Bengaluru are on the verge of closing or sale.

Rakshith Gowda, a gym owner and secretary of gym owners association told ANI that they are not even able to pay rent of the premises which is Rs 60,000 to 1 lakh per month.

"The condition of the owners of the gym have worsened. We have to pay a minimum of Rs 60,000 - 100,000 rent of the building and for past 4 months we couldn't pay the rent, salary to trainers and cleaners, EMI," Gowda said.

"I urge the government to take necessary steps to bring up the gym sector as they have allowed opening up of shops, temples, malls. We urge the government to take proper steps in the interest of gyms," added Gowda.

Mahesh, a gymer said that he had to participate in a competition and due to lockdown he could not work on his bodybuilding.

"I was building my body for one year and due to lockdown I couldn't do the workout, I had to take part in a competition, now I need at least another one year to build my body back," Mahesh said.

Prasad, international bodybuilder said, "Most of the bodybuilders and gym owners are running gyms by taking loans, they are not in the situation to pay their loan EMIs."

"It's very important for us to reopen gyms and run them with all precautions and guidelines but the government is not allowing us to pay our loans and many gym owners and trainers are facing a tough time to earn living. We have requested Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol and cabinet ministers to allow us to open, but the government hasn't taken the decision in the interest of gyms which is creating more problems for us," Prasad said.

Mangaluru, July 29: The police have managed to nab a youth in connection with issuing death threat against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the outgoing deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

The arrested has been identified as Ranjit, a resident of Bajpe, on the outskirts of the city. He is said to be Hindutva activist. 

The death threat came in the wake of the officer’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha. 

Even though the IAS officer had not lodged any complaint, Moodbidri police had registered a suo motu case after a WhatsApp screenshot of the death threat went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Sindhu B Rupesh was transferred and posted as director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Bengaluru Commissioner of Police, Bhaskar Rao, said that prohibitory order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1973, will remain in place for all parts of the City Commissionerate till April 20.

Section 144 of CrPC prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area.

"Prohibitory order under section 144 of CrPC will remain in force, in all parts of the Bengaluru City Commissionerate for a period up to 12 am of April 20 with effect from 12 am of April 14," according to Rao.

Karnataka, so far, has 258 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 9 deaths being reported due to the infection, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.
