Muslims, Christians to partake in Kudroli temple 'hore-kanike' procession on Sunday'

Mangalore, October 10: As part of centenary celebrations of Brahma Kalashothsava at Kudroli Shri Gokarnath Kshetra, a 'hore kanike' procession will take place on Sunday in which members of Hindu, Muslim and Christian community will participate, said president of development committee of the Kshetra H S Sairam.

 

Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the grand procession would begin from Nehru Maidan at 3 pm under the leadership of B Janardhana Poojary, in which teams from Kerala, Mumbai, Gujarat and Karnataka would partake. Around 1000 vehicles are expected to be a part of this procession, he informed.

 

Mr Sairam also said that Brahma Kalash programme would also be held by over 200 priests on October 19 and 20 at Kudroli in the presence of head priests belonging to Shivagiri Math.

 

The procession this year will be a historic one. Commencing from Nehru Maidan, it will reach Kudroli temple via A B Shetty Circle, K S Rao Road, PVS Circle, M G Road, Ladyhill and Mannagudda. Around 1000 flag-bearers will take part in the procession, said member of the management committee Harikrishna Bantwal.

 

Vice-president of the committee Raghavendra Kulur, treasurer Padmaraj, trustees B K Taranath, Ravishankar Mijar, K Maheshchandra, vice president of the temple's development committee Urmila Ramesh Kumar and others were present at the press conference.

 

Hore Kanike is an arrangement where the devotees contribute rice, pulses, coconuts, vegetables, and other food grains needed for mass feeding at festivals.

Bengaluru, Mar 19: To better enforce social distancing and prevent further spread of Covid-19, the Karnataka health and family welfare department on Wednesday said it will "stamp the back of the palm" of international passengers advised to be on home quarantine, along with the date they are allowed to get out of home. The stamping process began at 12am Thursday.

Pankaj Kumar Pandey, commissioner, health and family welfare, said: "It is noted that a few passengers under home quarantine are not following the instructions. Therefore, it has been decided to stamp the back of the palm of their left hand with a specially designed stamp which will indicate the last day of quarantine."

He said the special stamp will use an indelible ink and "airports in Karnataka have been instructed to follow this without fail". On average, about 3,000 people are arriving in Bengaluru on international flights every day.

The department said social distancing is the only known method of combating the spread of Covid-19 and added, "International passengers are segregated as symptomatic and asymptomatic."

High-risk flyers kept at mass quarantine unit

The symptomatic passengers (Group-A) are taken to designated hospitals; asymptomatic ones, depending on the port of origin, are taken to the quarantine centre or permitted to go on home quarantine.

At the mass quarantine centre, the asymptomatic passengers are divided into moderate-risk (Group-B) and high-risk (Group-C) categories.

“The high-risk passengers are kept at a mass quarantine centre for medical observation. The moderate-risk passengers are being sent for home quarantine where they need to spend 14 days,” the statement added.

Pandey said: “International passengers changing flights within the country cannot be stopped. Ideally, they should be stamped at the first port of entry when they arrive from a foreign country which is not happening.” He said this issue will be brought to the notice of the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation.

Bengaluru, Aug 9: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has expressed condolences over the death of nodal officer who died while being on COVID-19 duty and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakhs to the family of the deceased.

The deceased has been identified as H Gangadharaiah. As per reports, he died due to a heart attack while on COVID-19 duty.

A government job and Rs 25 lakhs will be provided to the officer's family, according to Karnataka Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

"Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa expressed his heartfelt condolences over the death of H Gangadharaiah, KAS, who was on COVID-19 duty as nodal officer at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC)," Karnataka CMO tweeted.

"CM announced Rs 25 lakhs ex-gratia from Chief Minister's Relief Fund, a government job for a family member and instructed the last rites of Gangadharaiah to be performed with full state honours," the CMO added.

In the last 24 hours, 7,178 new COVID-19 cases (including 2665 in Bengaluru Urban), 93 deaths and 5,006 discharged cases were reported in Karnataka.

The total number of cases rises to 1,72,102 in the state, including 79,765 active cases, 89,238 discharges and 3,091 deaths, as per the State's Health Department.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu Rupesh has written to her counterpart at Valsad to make food and accommodation arrangements for two persons from Puttur who are stranded at Ambergaon village in their district due to lockdown.

Valsad is a district near Gujarat-Maharashtra border.

Ashik Hussain and Mohammed Takeen Maril, have been stuck at the RTO check post of Ambergaon for the last 21 days. The duo have been staying in their car, without proper accommodation or food.
