Mangalore, October 10: KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar said that all the 71 MLAs from the Congress are ready to tender resignation when it comes to the conservation of land and water of the State.
Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said the Congress is committed to the welfare of the State and will not involve in any silly politics. “The State government did not take all party delegation to the Prime Minister to apprise him of the situation in Karnataka and to urge him to review the CRA's decision on distributing Cauvery water.
The government called it as a BJP's delegation. Why should the Congress leaders go in the BJP's delegation?” he asked.
“The State government did not take us into confidence while filing a review petition in the Supreme Court with regard to Cauvery water. By agreeing to release water, the State has shown the Supreme Court that there is water in Karnataka. Prime Minister is bound by the Constitution of the country and law of the land. Hence, as a Chairman of Cauvery River Authority (CRA), he did not oppose the Supreme Court's direction to release water,” he added.
To a query on Lingayat leaders complaining against Parameshwar with Sonia Gandhi, he said the issue has not come to his notice.
“There is no rift in the KPCC. The Congress is strong and making all preparations for the forthcoming elections. The Congress is confident of winning the election with majority. We have already started selecting the possible MLA candidates. We will announce the candidates one month in advance,” he said.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will visit Mangalore on October 18. She will address the Congress elected representatives of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Chikmagalur and Hassan. About 15,000 participants will take part in the convention.
She will also inaugurate the centenary programme of Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple at 6 pm.
