Beltangady, October 11: All the student organisations of coastal Karnataka have vociferously condemned the brutal rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl, whose body was found on Wednesday found lying amidst road-side bushes on the outskirts of holy town of Dharmasthala.
Organisations like Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Campus Front of India, Democratic Youth Federation of India, Students Federation of India on Thursday exerted pressure on the police to speed up the investigation into the case and nab the culprits immediately.
Hundreds of students under the banner of ABVP staged a mammoth protest at Ujire Circle demanding justice to the family members of the victim on Thursday afternoon.
Addressing the protesters ABVP state secretary K Ramesh said that the police should take all the necessary steps to prevent the recurrence of such brutal crime.
In a media release Dakshina Kannada district unit of Campus Front of India stated that the incident has created a fear in the minds of students, especially in the minds of girl students.
The administration and police should consider the incident seriously and take stringent action against the culprits, said Mohammed Imran, unit president of the organisation.
No Breakthrough
Meanwhile, the police investigating the case did not make any headway even more than 24 hours after the incident.
It is learnt that Belthangady police have taken a man into custody after a group of people assaulted him, suspecting him to be the accused.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal said that the case is being investigated in every possible angle. “We had suspicion on a couple of persons but were let off after inquiry,'' he said.
