Foil designs of communal elements: Minister at peace rally

Kasargod, October 13: Minister for Home Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Friday inaugurated a public function organised in connection with 'Maanava Souharda rally' hosted by the district police and Federation of Residents' Associations of Kasaragod (FRAK) to foster communal harmony.

Speakers at the meet exhorted the people to foil the designs of vested interests to foment communal violence in the northern region of Kerala, aptly regarded as 'Saptabhasha Sangama Bhoomi' (confluence of seven languages).

The speakers said the designs of a minuscule number of unscrupulous elements held sway over the younger generation in the region. They said it was high time for introspection on whether the recurring violence was coming in the way of tapping the potential and resources of the new generation.

They said over 10,000 cases of communal violence had been registered in Kasaragod. The recurring communal clashes had resulted in stagnated growth of the region No religious tenets ever professed the faithful to hate the principles espoused by other religions, the Home Minister, flanked by senior religious heads, told the largely attended gathering.

He said efforts were under way to install as many as 200 CCTV in sensitive localities in the district within two months to monitor the movement of the people.

N. A. Nellikunnu, MLA , presided over the function. Superintendent of Police S. Surendran delivered the welcome address.

Bengaluru, Jul 4: Karnataka Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Saturday that he and his family would get tested for COVID-19 after one of his security persons tested positive for the infection.

Rao's family will also be in-home quarantine for the stipulated time.

"One of my police security person has tested positive for COVID yesterday. My family members and I are getting tested now and will be in-home quarantine for the stipulated time period. None of us are showing any symptoms," he said.

The total number of cases in Karnataka stands at 19,710. Out of them, 8,805 have recovered and 293 patients have lost their lives, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Across the country, the total number of cases stands at 6,48,315. As many as 3,94,227 patients have recovered so far and 18,655 have lost their lives due to the virus.

Bengaluru, Apr 9: 10 new positive cases have been confirmed in Karnataka, apart from the recent fatality of an 80-year-old woman from Gadag district, the health department said on Thursday.

The fresh cases have been reported in the state from last evening to Thursday noon.

Till date, 191 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed, which includes 6 deaths and 28 discharges, the update said.

Among the 10 positive cases, eight are contacts of patients who have already tested positive- one each from Belagavi, Mandya and Chikkaballapura, two from Mysuru, and three from Bagalkote; while two from Bengaluru city are with a travel history to Delhi.

Three cases from Bagalkote are children- two boys of 4 and 13 years of age, and one girl of 9 years old.

The elderly woman died on April 8 in Gadag, the department said in its mid-day situation update.

Confirming that her reports tested positive on April 7, officials had said, she had a history of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

Bengaluru, Feb 10: Smoke entered wards at Sagar Hospital following a short circuit in the UPS room, said the fire department here on Sunday.

"Smoke entered wards at Sagar Hospital in Bengaluru, following a short circuit in the UPS room at the hospital today. Patients have been shifted from the site of the incident, as a precaution," the fire department in Bengaluru said.

"No fire incident reported and the situation is under control now," the fire department said.
