Two teenage boys meet watery grave

Mangalore, October 13: In a gut-wrenching incident, two teenage boys were washed away in a river at Bengre Kasba in the city on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Hasan Nameer (14) son of Basheer and Marzook (13) son of Ameer. Marzook was Class 8 student of Government High School, Bengre, while Nameer Class 9 student of Badriya School, Kandak.

 

The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. when the duo, along with four other students, was playing in the water.

 

An eye witness said that two of the boys slowly swam towards the deep water. However they could not swim back to safety and suddenly disappeared.

 

Though local swimmers rushed to rescue them after other boys cried for help, the duo had already lost their lives.

 

Their bodies were fished out with the help of lifeguards from Tannirbavi and Panambur police.

 

It is learnt that the group of boys was regularly going for swimming to spend Dasara holidays.

 

A case has been registered at Panambur police station.

Mangaluru, Jan 16: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is holding rallies and meetings and distributing booklets across the country in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, said ABVP National Secretary Harsha Narayan here on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons, he said that the CAA, which provides citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Christians persecuted in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, was among the things that the ABVP was fighting for.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: Examination for PU II English paper, which was postponed for more than three months due to threat of Coronavirus, was held on Thursday across the state.

The authorities were forced to postpone the examination of the English subject, scheduled in March, abruptly due to the threat of Covid-19 which spread like wildfire and has so far claimed lives of more than 100 in the state.

There are over 1,016 examination centres across the state. All the students were put to thermal scanners and were ensured wearing face masks. Each centre has sanitisers. Those with cold, cough and fever were assigned a separate room.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: A health worker, who was part of a team fighting against the Coronavirus disease in the city, was allegedly attacked by a mob and duped of her belongings at the Sadiq Layout in the Shivajinagar area on Thursday.

According to police sources, the health worker came under attack by a mob of youths when she was collecting data from those who were sick in the locality.
