Sowjanya-Rape-and-Murder-One-Arrested

Mangalore, October 14: Investigations have proved that the same Santosh Rao, who had been handed over by the public to police earlier this week, was the real culprit in the brutal rape and murder of a 17-year old girl in Dharmasthala, police said.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal on Sunday confirmed that 34-year-old accused Santhosh Rao, a resident of Bajagoli in Karkala taluk, confessed of raping and murdering the helpless girl, who was walking alone on the street on October 9.

Mentally ill Santhosh revealed the truth to the police who interrogated him with the help of a psychiatrist, Mr Goyal told media persons adding that the girl was not gang raped.

“Rao had solely committed the crime and police have also gathered sufficient evidences against him. It was also confirmed that the injuries on his body including nail marks occurred during the rape”, he said.

SP also confirmed that Rao was formally arrested by the police and he would be produced before court.

Sources said that Rao told police during interrogation that he even took away the undergarments of the girl after raping and murdering her.
