KSRTC workers may strike work anytime'

Mangalore, October 15: General secretary of the KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation H.V. Ananthasubba Rao said here on Sunday that road transport corporation (RTC) workers might strike work anytime if officials did not stop unnecessary transfers.

Addressing a meeting of Mangalore and Puttur divisional units of the union affiliated to the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) he said: “Even after the last month's two-day strike, the officials have not changed [their attitude]. Even now the transfers are on.”

Referring to the calling off of the two-day strike last month, Mr. Rao said: “It was a temporary victory. We have not laid down our arms.”

He said before the last month's strike, the union had pressed the State government to have separate pay scales for the staff and workers with effect from April 2012. But Transport Minister R. Ashok did not agree to the demand stating that it would cost an additional Rs. 164 crore to the exchequer. He had said the government had no money. But after the two-day strike, the government agreed to consider the demand, he said and sought to know from where the government got the money now.

He alleged the government had suppressed the RTC staff and workers for the past 16 years.

He said the management adopted discriminatory policy while taking disciplinary action against top officials and staff and workers.

Mr. Rao criticised former Chief Ministers B.S. Yeddyurappa and H.D. Kumaraswamy for taking credit for RTC workers calling off their strike last month. They did not do anything in this regard. They were claiming credit keeping in mind the coming Assembly elections, he alleged.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Firebrand BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said that control of state power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma.

His comments, in a series of tweets, came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"Dear Hindus, Most important lesson is that control of State power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma. When we didn't control State, we lost our temple. When we regained, we rebuilt. The 282 (seats) in 2014 and 303 (seats) in 2019 to Sri Narendra Modi made today possible!", Surya, who is also the party's BJP youth Wing state general secretary, tweeted.

He also said that the survival of India depends on the survival of Sanatana Dharma.

"The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism,' Sri Aurobindo had said in his Uttarapara speech. But what does it mean? Along with Jai Sri Ram, the purohits also chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai - That is Dharmic nationalism. If Dharma survives, India survives," he said in another tweet.

Mangaluru, Jun 11: City police on Thursday filed a 700-page chargesheet in connection with the arrest of Aditya Rao, 36, accused of planting an IED at Mangaluru International Airport on January 20.

The chargesheet said the bag placed near MIA entrance had a real bomb, as per the FSL report. The IED in the tin box was made of sulphur, ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and charcoal.

Rao, an engineer, who learnt bomb-making through online videos, had also placed a timer along with it and sharp objects such as nails and metals. However, he had not fixed wires to trigger a blast. “His intention was not to cause a blast but only to create a scare,” said sources.

The bomb was made in less than two weeks. However, it had taken Rao several days to procure raw materials. Police had completed the chargesheet process in April.

Mangaluru, May 5: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has denotified two containment zones, Sampya in Puttur and Thumbe in Bantwal. They were declared containment zones after one coronavirus positive case was reported from each area.

All the primary and secondary contacts of the patients have completed home quarantine period, said DC Sindhu B Rupesh.

The district administration hitherto had already denotified three other such containment zones based on a report of DHO,  after no new case was reported in the area in the last 28 days.

At present, the district has six containment zones-- Shakthinagara, Boloor, First Neuro Hospital in Mangaluru city, Uppinangady in Puttur, Kasaba and Narikombu in Bantwal taluk.
